  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SmallHD 502 Monitor Group Buy!

Anybody having issues with longer cable runs going into the 502? I have a 25' SDI cable and a few HDMI cables that work on my Flanders monitor but not on my 502. A call into SmallHD support confirmed that the 502 really needs a well shielded cable run from the source if you are going longer than 10ft, but that they had not heard any of the 'peanut gallery' chime in with this issue. Maybe it's just my monitor?

I want to test the micro USB power port to a Paralinx receiver. Needs a special adapter cable though. Anybody try that yet? Does it put out 5V at 2.0A?

I also put in a request to have the ability to save your settings off to the SD card because a firmware update nukes them. Overall, I'm digging the 502, though it runs a bit hot!

According to the website, 502's USB power is 5V at 0.5A, so it's no where near powerful enough to supply power for Paralinx Receiver.

So far my experiences on group buy have been long and complicated if not painful but that one was a treat.
502 arrived within a week, working perfectly at a great price, thanks a lot Chris for the opportunity!

On another hand I contacted the support yesterday but didn't get any answer so I thought I might try here.
I'm having a hard time updating firmware, I followed all instructions on the website, tried with different SD cards formatted in EX Fat but it seems that the 502 doesn't recognize the SD card or the firmware on it.
Any help here please?

Hi Vincent!

hope all is well! ;)

You have to format the card with FAT16 or FAT32 to being able to use it for firmware update.

Let us know if you resolve this issue!

Cheers!

No prob Vincent! Hopefully you're able to troubleshoot the SD card/firmware update issue you're having. Like Tommaso said, it needs to be formatted properly and I think it can only be up to size 32GB (not 100% sure on that though). If SmallHD doesn't respond, or you don't get it working, let me know and I can email my contact directly at SmallHD.

Thanks Chris and Tommaso.
Formatted two SD cards, a 4GB and a 16GB in FAT32 and I still couldn't upgrade it.
Let's see what Small HD has to said, so far I haven't received any answer from them.

I imagine the usb port is only for updating firmware. Totally unrealistic to expect it to be a power source.

Agree to disagree.

Also, you update the firmware with SD cards and the port is officially for "Factory use and Future user functionality" so only the future will tell.

Ok, good point, but why would you expect such a small power device to power anything else ?

Can you toggle zoom in or loupe effect (part of the frame is zoomed in) with a custom key on the monitor to check if focus is ok?

Thanks

Pat

There are 2 zoom levels. 2X and 4X. Plus it zooms into the last zoom position which I really like.
