SmallHD 502 Monitor Group Buy!

So what is everyone planning to use this for? I'm about to order a 7 inch Red touch for on camera monitoring, is this 502 just a cheaper option? Or would you use it as a directors monitor? Focus pulling monitor? Wireless Ronin monitor??

I think im in but I'd like to know why I need this

Thanks

It's an amazing monitor. It's small, high resolution, feature packed, color accurate and it's a SmallHD with great customer service! AND, if you operate a gimbal, it's a no-brainer.

Hi Chris,

Code received.

Thank you for organising this group buy.

Chris, mine just arrived this evening. Haven't even had time to unbox it. But I'm curious. Are you using it on your Movi in place of the RED touch monitor to save weight? I would never have considered such a thing before fool control /ipod touch/hotlink came along. But I've been wondering if ditching the RED touch in favor of the other combo is the way to go.

That's the exact thing I'm doing. Keeping the touch though in case redlink and fool control wig out. Always want to have a way to control the camera just in case. But yea, it's essentially replaced my touch, though directors love this little high resolution and color accurate bad boy for monitoring what the camera's getting...so sometimes I don't get to use it on the MoVI. Hehe Just attach a little magic arm or 2 and you've got a simple little cage that is rock solid. Paired with the Paralinx Triton and it's a sweet, small and portable setup.

Whats a Redlink? Im assuming we can place this monitor on the Ronin arm and use the Paralinx Triton to get a wireless signal? And use fool control to control the camera, and just use a revolt to power the camera? Is this how you guys are operating?

It's the redlink/redbridge. Pair that with the fool control app, and you have wireless camera control. I have my AC control the camera wirelessly along with pulling focus. I'm not sure about the ronin, but the SmallHD is a really light and small monitor, so you shouldn't have any issues mounting it practically anywhere. I use the triton as well and love it!

Received mine and it's great so far. For those who haven't unboxed theirs yet: you need to go through a short activation process that requires internet and serial # before it's usable. I unboxed mine during setup for a shoot, and found that I couldn't use it until I did the activation process. It only takes a minute or two on a laptop with internet, I'd recommend doing it before you get to set :)

On another note: Anybody have a good sunshade/sunhood idea for this monitor?
