+1

Still no news about the 32...

At the same time i have a 135mm APO f2 Zeiss which *seems* to match render wise but not colour.

And at the wide end a 16mm xeen. Again not 100% ideal but the xeen seemed less harsh that the zeiss and the OOF (for a 16) seemed smoother than normal. I tried a few wides, most have quite harsh bokeh which jarred a bit.

cheers
Paul

Do you remember what stop you were shooting at? If that was wide open against the bulb in the profile shots then the APO tech really controls the CA in the close up.

Hi Darren.

I was wide open (T2.1) and it was the 25mm and the 50mm from memory.

These lenses win me over more and more as I use them. I just wish they'd hurry up and finish the set !

Do you shoot the whole show on it, or did you just test it on that particular scene?

Looks really nice! Creamy.

I use these primes when I want to shoot in a very intimate and "close" way with the actors. I had primos mostly but sometimes they're just too big to wrangle in very close quarters for a "visual jazz" style of shooting.

By about episode 5, which just aired, I would certainly be shooting whole scenes with them and overall they're maybe up to 30% of the show. Maybe more...

I have the 3 set, the very low to no CA is apparent and makes hot backlights in frame very pretty. The veiling bloom and rainblow flares on the 50 I love love

What is the latest, here in Spring 2018, as to the expansion of the lineup? The SLR Magic website doesn't give any indication ( and the website, overall, leaves much to be desired, imo. )

What other primes do you owners of the SLR Magic's find them closest to in terms of color reproduction? I've seen the SLR Magic's compared to Cookes. Do you agree that they are similar to Cookes in terms of color reproduction? How do they compare to Canon lenses?

When I was looking around online I came across a 50mm SLR Magic Cine APO that was being sold "as is", the seller saying that the focus ring on the lens was bad- either stripped or stuck, I can't recall. While any lens can become damaged, the listing did make me think twice as to the build-quality of the SLR Magics despite many owners describing them as well-built and robust. Then add in that the company is rather elusive, their website is rarely updated and seems frozen in time, and it is difficult to get any verifiable information as to the future of their FF cinema line.

Judge for yourself. Watch this without reading the text and see if you can tell which is which.

I personally equate them to Primos more than Cooke’s.

I’ve had three lenses in daily use on Preston’s for months and they’ve been great. They’re very well made actually in my view.

SLR magic is a very small Hong Kong based company. English is their second language. They don’t really do marketing well. If that makes you uncomfortable then you should look to the more obvious brands.

On the other hand I know Andrew well because I simply started emailing him and asking questions.

They’ve always been very responsive to me.

They are adding a 32mm next and then a longer prime (135?) and an 18mm.

I sent them an email and 5 min later andrew called me personally. So that is high marks in my book. They are repairing a damaged lens I received from a vendor that was a demo model and I believe had been dropped or something

They are warm and slightly green, but consistent
