Slow Motion Test?

Hey everyone, I was just curious how good the slow motion looks on the Scarlet. I know it's not as high FPS as the Epic, but are there any tests of 60p 2K or 120 fps 1K? Are there any tests yet? Thank you!

I may be wrong but I believe that skateboard video was shot in 3k and compressed to 720p which is still higher res than 1k.

I would also really really like to see a test on the new scarlet.

The skateboard promo video for Scarlet was shot at 120fps 1K.

I'm assuming you google searched for 120fps Scarlet and missed the first thousand or so links that would give you the same info, so here it is.

I'm not sure that video (and every one of the links on the first page of Google) are very good examples as they were shot on "Scarlet 8x prototypes." We have no idea if those were 2/3" Scarlets or how different they were from the Scarlet-X. I think what McKay is looking for is sample video shot on a current Scarlet.

That is from the non-released 3k fixed lens scarlet...
Not the shipping S35 "mini-Epic" scarlet.

I'm not sure, but I actually think it was shot at 1K 120 fps. The resolution matches Scarlet's 1K setting (1024x510). But, again, I'm not completely sure.

AKA Scarlet-X.

You're exactly right, by the way.

If you download the original QT of that video, you'll find that the dimensions are exactly that of 1K from a Scarlet (or Epic) X.

Speaking of- Epic and Scarlet have the same exact sensor, and there are definitely no shortage of Epic slow-mo tests on the internet.

Sure, but there isn't a lot of scarlet 1k material flying around, yet.

The image is downsampled from 3k, and will thus probably look... smoother than 1k images @ 1k...

Hey everyone. Thanks for the replies, and you're right. I've seen tons of slo-mo videos for the fixed 2/3 Scarlet that wasn't released. I'm curious to see how slow motion looks on the Scarlet-X. Will there be any tests soon? Thanks again!

It can't be that said Michael. We don't even have our Scarlets, yet:).

It would be great for any new Scarlet possessors to shoot at the camera's highest FPS and post it - something action based that is.

It should look basically identical to the Epic at the same frame rates. One important note about slow motion:

ALWAYS SET YOUR SHUTTER TO "RELATIVE" MODE, NOT "FIXED". This will give you film-like motion blur.

Could you explain what the difference is, and why it matters? I ask because, honestly, I have no idea . . .

Well, I think I get it, intuitively. But I'd love a solid explanation.

If you leave it FIXED the shutter will remain what you set it when you change framerates, effectively giving you a different shutter speed between shots. RELATIVE means it will adjust itself accordingly when switching framerates so that when played back at your base framerate the shutter speed on your VFR shots will match your "normal speed" shots.

hmmmmm... now there are some scarlets out in the wild but no one has shared any overcranked and on cropped sensor size recorded r3d´s...
is it because the results are so bad that nobody wants to share them ???
it´s a little bit frustrating that nobody of the existing scarlet-x owners want to show us, what we can expect to get out of the scarlet-x.

we only know, that there are a few posts, in which low quality in case of sensor cropping & slowmo are reported.
it also seems, that the scarlet-x is far away from the nearly 3 years announced 120fps at 3k.

that does not mean, scarlet-x is a bad camera - hell it is the best camera which is available in this price class and i´m looking forward to get my scarlet-x canon ti soon :-)
