I have not had a chance to download the new firmware yet. It doesn't appear that we can shoot single frames yet does it?

Nope not according to spec release.

Im still exporting singles from RCXPRO.

There does, I think, appear to be a way to shoot one frame at a time, for stop-motion type purposes. I haven't actually tried it yet, so I can't verify. Anyone done it?

Wouldnt Time Lapse be the trick?
Just it for a specific lenght then do your moves?
I think Ill try that with my AT-AT tonight ;)

I do actually want to be able to use the Scarlet for stop-motion type purposes. I would love an external trigger that I could animate objects and fire off shots.

Sorry if this is a really dumb answer because I didn't get what you meant... but can't you set the Scarlet to "stills" rather than "motion" and use it as a regular DSLR?
Ok, perhaps a super-duper DSLR??

No, there is no Stills mode. There is a "Stills, Motion" button on the side handle, but they have yet to implement proper Stills usage via software.

But, there does, however, appear to be a setting now, where every time you hit the record button, it takes a frame; basically a stop motion mode (not a stills photography mode, though you could use it as such).

Eric, if you try doing so via the Timelapse funtion, you have to move your subject entirely and accurately in-between exposures. Not really the best way to make stop motion.

It would be a fun test at least.

I also want to try that Long Exposure option as well :)

haha, that would definitely keep you on schedule... so where's this stop motion setting?

In with the TimeLapse/Frame Summing stuff, there's an option that seems to indicate it takes one frame every time you hit record. I can't verify, as I'm at work and no where near my camera. Was hoping someone else had tried it and could report. I really want to try stop motion on R3D files, but previously the workflow would have been soooooo shitty once you got to grading. Having to individually copy a node tree in Da Vinci to each of 5000 stills . . . ugh.

haha, whattt? just make an image sequence bro... you're converting to rgb no matter what. set up a look (one-light) in rcx, apply it to every shot, export/rename files to make an image sequence. but, apparently that's irrelevant, now. just sayin.

- In the Recording Dialog set the Recording Mode to "External Frame Trigger".
- Map a key to "Record: External Frame Trigger".
- Press Record to start a recording (the first frame will be captured)
- Press your mapped key to capture a frame (repeat for as many frames as you like)
- Press Record to stop recording frames to that file.

this seems like quite a work around for the user. why not just have a still mode?

External Frame Trigger mode is a standalone feature - it just so happens to work pretty well as a pseudo stills mode. We never said we won't eventually add a proper stills mode - there are a lot of features we plan to add to the camera and they all take time.

sorry guys, I just read the specs and as you said, it's not implemented yet!

So am I to understand that WILL be an option later on. Because that is a HUGE bonus to me and a reason i"ll buy a Scarlet tomorrow!!

Cool. Thanks Trent. Is there anyway to activate this function externally from a computer or some type of cable release?

awesome, thanks trent! will check it out...

Sure, you can map the "Record: External Frame Trigger" action to the Brain GPI pin or any of the Pro I/O input pins. (Settings->Setup->GPIO/Sync).

Trent,

Could I bold and ask directly if you caould put a timescale as to when this feature will be added? Thanks very much for your insight..

Regards

Does anyone sell a trigger that connects to the GPIO/Sync output?
