Significant Update...

Thanks so much for the update. This is such an amazing deal - giving everyone 5 months to buy at the current prices. Astounding.

Quick question: I know stage 4 is for "brain only". I thought I read a while ago (I know, I know. Subject to change...) that all Epics came with the SSD module. Is that the case? Cool, if not. I just want to go ahead and order the module if it will not be included in Stage 4.

Thanks!

+1 !!!

Is there already a sense for how soon it will be possible to order the accessories (mounts, side-handles, pro I/O) to accompany Stage 2 orders? I'm guessing that will occur when we get contacted to make full payment on our package, perhaps starting next month?

Still to cheap as far as I'm concerned :)

The best camera in the world for 1/4 of the price of it's closest competitor. 1/3 the size and four times the resolution.

That's for sure.

I'm suddenly panicked. I never put my name on any official list for Stage 3 because I never saw anything about an official list. Is there even an official list for Stage 3? I didn't do Stage 2, so I assumed (being #791) that I was in line for Stage 3, but now I'm not so sure. Am I still okay?

Stephen

Oh, and one more thing: Will the Canon electronic mount (which looks really great, by the way!), indeed be available when Epic X is shipping?

Stephen

Again, there is no list for Stage 3 and never has been, only the informal list on REDUSER, so no need to panic. Furthermore, no contact for Stage 3 orders should be expected at least until Stage 2 orders begin shipping.

Wow, consider yourself a luck man! Stage 3 has not been sealed yet.

Great update for future Epic owners, now, I hate to be "that guy" but what about the Scarlet roll-out. Where does that fall in line with Epic Stage (x)? Will future Scarleteers be offered a similar Jan 1st deadline to lock in early-bird prices?

Thanks in advanced RED Team, you are amazing, just trying to make sure Scarlet news is available too.

Okay, great. Thanks much.

Relieved.

:-)

I thought you guys showed a slimmer 'Dummy' Side handle at NAB? More of a Grip I guess.

Jason

That was the "Bottom Handle", if I'm not mistaken. Used for when you want to flip the brain 90° and shoot portrait mode. The electronic connectors gave all induction that it was as I suspect too...

Great !
Since you already know how many people have put a reservation for stage 2, would you be able to tell how long approximately it will take to go through all this stage ? Is there a way to know where in the line we stand if we have a stage 2 reservation ?

This is an important question.

Now that RED has a solid understanding of the assembly time, and has the number of Stage 2 orders nailed down, it would seem fairly easy to estimate how long it will take to get through Stage 2.

Although delivery time would still only be an estimate this would help all those after Stage 2 get a clearer picture of the roadmap/timeframe.

And they look nice. Really nice... Image by Vincent Laforet, Link: http://propic.com/23C

Is it safe to assume that since both the white and red dots are on the mount that it *will* take both EF and EFS lenses?

It feels like this train is really starting to move again! Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting it ever really stopped, it just felt like the track work was going to go on forever. Time to buckle up... ;-)

Yah, this is great news Jim -- and with the production of M's humming and getting the parts, I can really feel your collective confidence now and being able to meet this new timeline. Exciting! And as always the pricing and just overall level of fairness is just unbelievable. Thanks :)

Dummy side handle is possible... electronic Canon and Nikon mount prices are $2000 for titanium. We couldn't make the aluminum mounts stable enough. Too much flex with longer lenses so we decided not to make them.

Jim

Thank you kindly for that comprehensive update Jim...very generous, and the increases are understandable.

Question:

A significant number of DSMC camera owners/users who shoot hybrid, EFP, and stills will want to use Canon or Nikon lenses exclusively on Epic - at least until the Red Electronic Lenses and mount are ready. I'm one of those. A PL mount is basically useless to most of of us who shoot these styles, because we virtually never use PL mount cine lenses.

Could there somehow be an option when buying an Epic to simply select which mount we'd like as the "stock" mount on the new camera? That would be incredibly cool...even if there needs to be a differential payment to get the Canon or Nikon mount as the stock mount.

Jim, Thank you for the update and keeping us informed. The price increases seem modest considering all the improvements and options.
