  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sigma Cinema Lenses

The Canon CN-Es cost around $4000 and they are based of still lenses worth around $2000. Sigma ART lenses are worth around $1300 so if the Sigma Cine lenses land on a price of around the same as the CN-Es that would be a bit odd. The effective price is around doubling so I would guess $2500 per lens.

Let's hope your predictions are right. Having my eyes on the Cine Zooms and praying for a decent pricetag.

I think the cine-zooms will be good anyway since the comparable zooms are the Canons which cost far beyond the CN-E primes.

Reports say that Sigma are closing a line of still lenses to make production available for cine style lenses..
Will this be the first mass produced pl mount production line?

Do the cinealtas cover 8k FF Helium?

Well it's roughly the same as 6k FF on Dragon, from what I've heard only one of them vignettes slightly, and sometimes not depending on the set.

thanks. I think it'll come down to how much the Sigmas will ultimately go for, but the cinealtas are certainly a lot bang for the buck

I don't think they will be that cheap.

Look at the Canon CN-Es and what still lenses they are made from and their costs and compare to what Sigma still ART lenses cost.

This is interesting, cause if Red releases their new lenses around the same time I might have to go with them instead. Ooor... maybe there the same optics??

If the Red lenses are priced within this price range and have smooth internal focus motors then they will be the best option for independent films period. But if they are priced higher you might be better off with Sigmas and gearhead remote focus instead.

CineAltas aren't recommended for Dragon 6K. Plus they are heavy and bulky and slower, you need to weight in on all those factors as well.

What they should cost, and what they will cost, are two different things.

Except we don't know what they will cost so we can only speculate with what they should cost.

Looks like the markets are pushing $3,000 & higher cost for a lens these days and even for refurbished. I think this is insane, they re-case an old lens with the same glass and call it new?

Am I the only one who thinks it's strange that the same 18-35 with 300 degree focus is cheaper at GL Optics? I bet you this pricing will drop.
