  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

shut up and shoot that Scarlet

So not super sexy... but.

For the past 8 years I've had a side passion project where I've been making a little online cooking show. Started out pretty modest, shooting in my home kitchen by myself on HVX200's. Something to do in between commercial gigs, and that downtime that freelancers can experience.

Fast forward and we're now shooting Scarlet Dragon 5K , with 4K masters (4K delivery coming next month to our new ROKU 4 Channel, but that's another story), with 1080 delivery to a bunch of online media platforms. Online I get a few million views a day aggregated across multiple outlets. My passion project became my full time shooting job, with a dedicated kitchen studio, etc... (stop laughing Bob G.)

Last week (Oct 19), I launched an cable channel on AT&T U-verse to just over 6 million homes in the U.S. - over the next few months I'll be rolling it out to 25-ish million homes across North America, with an option for double that in Latin America. By this time next year most of these operators will have us on their 'dial' as a 4K test channel.

Still early days, but very exciting... All shot on Scarlet. I'm building a cable empire with Scarlets!!!!

Shut up and shoot that Scarlet.

Amazing story Glen, and as a rum fan I'm now extremely thirsty - so I'd say your work hit the spot!

Thanks Kalulo.

Hi Les,

You post an interesting range of images, what are you working on?

Thanks Daniel. Working on personal projects, mostly for learning from and for the enjoyment of it.

Glen I know you have told us you edit in FCPX, but I can't remember where you do your color? Also, what monitor are you using to do your color? What are your gamma and color settings in your Dragon Scarlets? (so many annoying questions!)

I 'colour' in Davinci - but that's totally overstating the process. Really I just roundtrip in order to stretch the image a little bit.

The clip referenced above is pre Dragon - Scarlet X - not sure what the settings were.

Below is a still from a few weeks ago shot on Dragon, straight from the cam, Dragoncolor2, REDGamma4. I play around quite a bit.

That's a fantastic looking photo Glen. Unless you are the chicken.

Have been shooting Epic for a couple years for University of Colorado Football. Bought a Scarlet-X this year to make a doc series on the season. Here's a little reel of Scarlet shots from this year.

Canon 24-105 f/4, Canon 70-200 f/2.8, Rokinon 35 1.5, That's probably about it. Graded this video with Filmconvert. Not a ton of color work - just some levels and little color adjustments.

Great work. Did you run any any low light issues when using the 24-105 F4? I ask b/c I am currently shooting Scarlet X with 16-35 2.8, 50 1.4, and 70-200 1.8. I feel I need the 24-70 but was leaning towards the 2.8...after seeing your video, I'm thinking I can save a few bucks and go with the F4. Any thoughts?
