  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

shut up and shoot that Scarlet

Great images here, ...

Can anyone give some advice on Colorspace and Gamma to use in RedCine-X for a Scarlet X ????
Redcolor2 etc, . and what color space for different situations?

Curtis

I've always just used the most recent REDcolors and REDgammas for the most part. I think that's the simplest and easiest way to get to a normal-looking image that can still be tweaked to taste.

IIRC correctly, REDcolor4 and REDgamma3 or 4 were the last ones specifically tuned for the MX sensors before the Dragon sensors came out.

It all depends what you want to do with your images and how you want to process them though.

REDlogFilm is a popular Gamma Curve that gives you a flatter, more adjustable image to start off with, and which can also be more suited as a beginning point when using other software to colour grade with.

Not sure what you mean by using different color spaces for different situations. As far as I know it's not something you need to change for different shooting situations, except perhaps for monitoring purposes (checking RAW view in-camera can be useful sometimes though), as it's all just Metadata and can be changed later anyway. If you mean different grading situations, then I guess you'd just choose whichever one you need to work within to comply with your final delivery specs.

Hope that helps a bit at least.

yes Les, helped a bunch, ... thank you.

Basically you confirmed what I have been doing.
I had just seen some posts where people mentioned using redgama2 or others for different shots.

Very cool thread,, I'll play :-)

No worries Curtis.

There is a difference between DRAGONcolor(1) and DRAGONcolor2, where some bright colours will clip sooner and some kinds of CA will be more noticeable when using DRAGONcolor2, but other than that I don't know of any other practical differences between the various color-spaces (when shooting under ordinary circumstances).

Putting that Scarlet-D to work, new video-

Lots of beautiful imagery there J, thanks for sharing.

Curious too how you were monitoring the aspect-ratio when shooting, was it with frame guides on both sides?

Looks cute, but vicious (?), thanks for sharing Rakesh.

This is one of my favorite frames I've seen in a while! Great job Justin!

4.5K, 5K, 6K, 8K.....meh. Still happy with some numbers and a high res K. Congrats to all the new owners out there with Ravens and whatever else. Shoot well and be happy!

That looks really good Curtis. Did you do much post-processing of the picture, and is the highlight really just coming from the phone?

Thanks,

The lighting on her face is just from a white screen on the phone, 800asa, .. the background light was a LED panel light W blue gel.
Not much in post, .. typical tweak color a little and pull the blacks down some. NO noise reduction!
Scarlet-X is an amazing camera, ..

I like this type of shoots so I'm hoping im one of the lucky ones to get an Epic-W in the early batch!!

Nice footage Samuel, thanks for sharing.

Can I ask what lenses you used?

Sorry for the noobish question, but I'm also curious what kind of setup you were shooting from (stationary vehicle, temporary shelter etc.) that allowed you to wait and shoot for days from what seems to be a dangerously(?) close distance to the bears.

Thank you Les.

I used the Sigma 50-500mm & the Canon 800mm. Both Lenses were used with and without a doubler. There was a Mac-Track van near by if things went south but the mother never saw me as a threat and was very relaxed.

Cheers,
Sam
