  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shut up and shoot that RED (NSFW)

Thanks guys.

Really cool when I "find" shots that are a bit less than obvious like the last few...

Def lighting and framing ideas I can use in non-still settings as well...
And thus far, that is much of the point of this.
To play around with lighting and framing ideas on close to no budget/equipment/location. Just try to be able to create nice images with a really basic kit and manning.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to play with "big machines" and crews. And really enjoy that.

But some of the stuff I wanna do will not be realisable if I make it dependant on those kinds of working condition. Still want it to look good.

It is a learning process...

Trying to see what kinds of looks I can push out of the camera with a light or two, "some" location and some old glass.

I don't think it will make me worse at working larger settings to be able to "make do" with what I have.

I have a philosophy that no look I can get out of the camera is "bad". What can make it bad, is if I try to make something look like it would look if the conditions were different. If I had a large crew, tons of light, a nice location, props and the works, that can be great. But if I shoot alone, i must try to make that not look like I am missing anything.

Not there yet. But workin' on it.

As fo the subject at hand, I haven't found a way to capitalize on it , other than the abovemention ambition, and actually I don't use much time on this. But i hope to be able to take it beyond "nice" and get some gigs from it eventually.

But you never know.

Stuff like that has only happened because of coincidents so far in my life. So I am open for more coincidences...

But to me, the important lesson I try to learn is: use what you have and learn the kit you have and make something out of that.

Up to a point, I was a pure kit dreamer. "If I only had (fill inn whatever) I could finally do (fill in whatever)

Trying turn 180 on that way of thinking...

I have myself
Access to some kit.

Work it.
Eventually I hope I will be "better" than I was.
Waiting for kit or premises to change, has never made me better at anything...

So will I upgrade to Dragon?
Dunno! Right now that is not a realistic option for me.

Will that make me stop shooting?

You know... I guess not.
I can do quite ok for a while still with the epic-x. And whatever else i get will just be a bonus...

And I could write articles about linear light, or just try to get a still or two more ready.

At the moment I am more into applied knowledge than hypothetical...

:-)

Cheers

It's fun...

I have rather complicated emotions around both Harry Clark and von Trier.

Strong likes and dislikes towards both... :)

Hi Gunleik,

This quote may be misleading. I had no intention of drawing a comparison between you and Larry's imagery but rather a correlation between your conviction to photography.

Your image #443 is hugely compelling.

Best, Peter

Thanks Pieter!

That's how I took it and as a compliment as such. :-)

Just made me think out loudly on some feedback I have had to some of the stuff I do...

But thanks again!

These shots are absolutely amazing!

Which ratio do you find to work best for photography?
