I'm cutting my first scarlet reel and need a little help as i can not see the wood from the trees

was asked by one of the clients to take down the reel:(

1. not graded
2. first draft so cuts are a little off
3. music needs to change

my questions are i guess

1.is it too long?
2.if so what would you take out?
3. any suggestion on music?

all constructive comment's welcome

Cheers

suresh

I've updated the link above to a new draft.

It does feel long at times. Try it with a couple of shorter songs. The most visually uninteresting piece is the scene in the office with the 3 people sitting behind the table, though I did like the shot of the man in the projector light, and the high pressure air blast into the mouth of that heavier gentleman. And I oddly enough enjoyed the music you used for this edit. It made it all feel a bit magical to me. Perhaps it was nostalgia.

Overall you have got some really great stuff in there. I would just give it a pass to tighten everything up and let it out into the wild.

Good job!

thank you! love the music but not really going to able to get it cleared so i guess its a no go:(

i think you are right about the office shots

cheers

1- its not too long - good shots made me watch it interestingly
2- generally noting
3- this kind of music would be suitable for slow motions, some footage got really action and life in them and i was disturbed by the music so i turned the volume off :(

My general opinion is the footage is awesome, would love to watch it with more energetic music .. really well done .. keep it up

Q.
1- What lens at 0:04? couple sitting together
2- Is it the same lens used at 1:55 to 2:00 if not then which one

Regards & thank you

Thanks for the feed back! You can really get lost doing a showreel:(

The lens's used were a canon 35L for the first and 50L for the second both on a scarlet shooting 4kHD

Thanks again!

Suresh

Dear Suresh,

Tnx for reply, did you use any lens filters on these shots or straight clean lens and scarlet 4K?

Waiting for your reply

Regards

Looks good, I also liked the music.
But if I was your agent then I would take out quite a few shots, basically everything that is not visually spectacular. So things I would remove would be:
shot of a guy eating at 18s.
Even the scene that starts at 6 seconds looks a bit flat (maybe not graded just yet) Still
Girl with pen at 22s.
Then for the russian stuff I would look for a clean verision or if thats not available zoom in to cut out the text.
I would also cut out some of the office stuff but leave the guy with the fan in his face.

Then there are some shots that sticks out in the grade, but as you stated that is not finnished, I ges you will give them the right punch.

That was as crude as I could possibly be. All in all its a good reel. But I think you got so much material so you can afford to leave just the absolute best parts in there.
