  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

We were shooting a commercial and there was an error in continuing to record, then the yellow tally came up and the media was not recognised. We tried to power it down through the LCD touchscreen and REDMOTE but did not work so we disconnect the power connector (which is connected to a RED V-Lock Battery). Reconnected the connector, powered it up and it was fine. We break for lunch then came back to the camera. Powered it up and the everything in on the LCD screen was fuzzy, grainy with green and blue colour. We used the SDI output and tested whether it was the LCD cable's problem but turns out the SDI output is giving out the same result. So we rebooted the camera multiple times and its fine sometimes at first but then goes back to to the same result after or straight away. We finally got 1 reboot that is working, pressed record to do a test and the yellow tally comes back up and we cant power it down, and it doesn't recognise the media again.
Never had this problem before until today.

We were shooting 4k HD, 25fps, ratio 5:1, firmware v3.0.0

We went through the manual and cant find a solution for it.

Hi Andy,

Have you tried restoring your system settings through the Maintenance tab?

Hello -- I've seen the Yellow Tally on my Scarlet with 3.2.8 (& I think also with 3.0). Seems to happen when I switch lenses from a true Canon AF to a Nikon with an adapter (I switch lenses with power off). I can sometimes reboot via the side red power button, other times I need to pull the power. It often takes several power cycles to get Scarlet to work again. It looks like a complete system reset (what happens when you power cycle) isn't always completely resetting everything.

Could changing lenses -- especially from AF to non-AF -- have anything to do with the Yellow Tally on both Epics and Scarlets ?

FWIW -

I've had issues changing lenses in the past but it manifested itself as an overall blue look on the monitor. I think that in the latest beta build, you can turn the lens communication off which is what I thought may be causing the problem. I haven't seen it in a while, though.
If you are going to Nikon, I would suggest turning it off.
I also never power down to change lenses, that would just take too much time.

Andy,

In the future i would suggest powering down by holding in the power/record button on the side of the camera. Pulling the power is not optimal for your system. Think of it like yanking the power cord out of your computer while it's running.

Yea I didnt know about holding down the PWR button to power it off before. I was trying the LCD and REDMOTE Power down over and over again for ages and was thinking whether to force the power disconnection because RED is pretty much a computer and loosing power without proper shut down is gonna do some damage.

I updated the firmware yesterday and it seems fine. Then this morning when i power it up, i got the fuzzy, grainy image again but after a reboot it was fine again.
I will power it up again tomorrow and if it does the same thing i will do the system restore.

By the way i read some of the recent posts of the new firmware and it says it has 1k WS at 400fps, HD ratio for all other resolution etc... but after i updated 3.0.7 i cant find any of these features. Are they talking about the next firmware, after 3.0.7??

Yes, they are talking about the beta firmware, not the release build.

Thanks Shane, i'll be looking forward to that one.

I did the system restore yesterday because i powered up the camera and i got that fuzzy, blue and green grain again. Then it seemed better and this morning too, until later today during an inhouse studio shoot, the Yellow Tally came back to haunt me. Lost the last part of the last take and had to force power down (holding down the PWR button).

Rebooted the camera and it works again.

I have updated to v3.0.7, done system restore. The problem is not as bad as before (happens when it is powered up) but it happens at least once every time i use the camera to shoot.

Anyone have any idea what it may be? RED technical support suggested me to do the same thing you guys did.
