Can anyone recommend a shoulder pad solution to go with RED's quick-release platform pack? I want to keep using the arca plate with the expander blade, and the quick release as well, so something that attaches via the dovetail or can be bolted onto a dovetail plate would be ideal. Thank you!

Wonderful! Thank you both! This looks ideal if it's comfortable. Have a strap-on shoulder cushion but want something less fiddly sometimes. It's wonderfully tiny!

With this shoulder pad system the camera will allways be too front heavy. The shoulder should be at the level between the mount and the focus hook.... The pad is 10cm too far back.

Certainly one way to look at that, but it's extremely common to use longer rods and mount the battery via a rod clamp and plate adapter to offset/balance that weight. Or a tucked mentality when front weighted even depending on the grips being used.

I was thinking about this too. This pad has a rod attachment that can go on the back, so you can make a little always-built assembly, or just use longer rods like you suggest.

For balance, like Phil suggested, I use a v mount plate on rods to balance the camera. Usually I'll leave a 150 on the back of camera, and a 98 on the plate. All of of my accessories and peripherals are plugged into a dtap splitter on the plate, plus I added a 4-pin lemo power cable which lets me hot swap the 150 (when the cable's plugged in).

I used to mount a shoulder pad on the rods behind the mount plate, but it got annoying moving it out of the way for certain situations. Now I use one of those Alan Gordon wearable shoulder pads, which looks pretty goofy, but does the trick. Don't even really notice I'm wearing it after a while. Another alternative I'm toying with is, getting a 120mm Euro quick release receiver then mounting that to a shoulder pad, so I can quickly swap between tripod/shoulder while having the pad directly under the baseplate (like the Kasbah system). Benefit there is not having to fiddle with the sliding mechanism of an Arri style dovetail. Just screw a 120 Euro plate into the bottom of the smaller Red dovetail.
