  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shot with a Scarlet today.

The picture's fairly self explanatory. RED sliding top handle with the round front bit taken off, RED 100mm swat rail, raised up on some crazy looking top plate so the handle clears the battery at the back. It looks to me like the LCD will still be able to pivot left and right over the top of the handle when the LCD is tilted further towards the back of the camera. I'm assuming the LCD is attached to the highest up holes on the front of the sliding top handle.

Wooden Camera have longer and shorter rails that the RED sliding handle can fit onto.

I see. Would you say an 18" cable would be ideal for that, or 12"?

The 12" cable should be ok. I think the cable that it comes with is 6 inches and it seems barely long enough in length to reach, but the connector needs to be aligned a certain way which requires twisting the cable around so it won't work as is.

The 6inch cable is pretty short. I wish they shipped with a 12, but then again, you take what you can get.

For the record, it ships with a 7" cable and not 6" right?

Yeah, I checked the site and there only seems to be 7", 18" and 4ft cables so it must be 7". I was estimating when I said 6".

How do you take off the round front bit??? I just got my my Sliding Top Handle + the swat rail today but the sliding top handle is backwards. (the tread holes are in the back of part of the piece that atach the sliding top hanlde to the swat rail. Is it user doable? Because I tried to do it by myself but it seens to be extremely hard.

Thanks

I don't know. But going by the picture on this page, http://www.woodencamera.com/safety-nato-rail , it looks to me like there's a thread inside that hole, so the front round bit might just be screwed in. The fact that the round bit has some flat area's suggests to me you might need a spanner/shifter/monkey-wrench type tool to unscrew it. To do the same with the handle-grip might require undoing the hand-grip's end piece and sliding the rubber grip off to reveal what's underneath.

What about mounting the monitor to the front mounting hole of a red tactical plate? would they clear the lens mount you think?

http://www.red.com/store/new-releases/product/dsmc-top-plate

that way you could mount the nato rail and the sliding handle on the top..?

Again, i don't know for sure, but just by looking at the pictures, I don't think the base of the LCD would clear the locking ring on the lens mount. If you really wanted to use that config you could probably get away with carving away a little bit of the LCD's base to make it fit, but then the top handle would be blocking part of the LCD screen anyway, so...

Sorry Timur for contributing to the hijacking of your thread, that's all from me.

Bit late to this thread... that's my Scarlet in front of Timur. Posting some brief thoughts on my website tomorrow.

As Timur said, we shot a mini-short instead of just test shots. It's going to take a couple of weeks to edit/grade/score/mix, largely thanks to the Xmas holiday. Timur got some great shots, really took advantage of the small size, and lensed it beautifully with his Cooke Panchros. One sample:

Spent some time playing around with shots in REDCINE-X though I won't be the one doing the grade. The image is rock solid. So much flexibility... I won't be missing h.264. ;)
