  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Shot on RED - Raven

Now THERE'S some Raven footage! Awesome, awesome, awesome.

To me this is the best footage I have seen yet. A variety of shots, subjects, lighting conditions and up to 2850 ISO!!!
I am very happy to have ordered a Raven.

Yeah this is just what was needed after yesterday's little shitstorm. There were a few guys who got miffed and jumped all the way to the back of the scarlet queue after freaking out over those gym shots. Bad move. :)

I ordered within the first 40 minutes and I don't think any of those guys were ahead of me. That being said I just thought the whole thing was ridiculous but as it was said I think they were looking for a reason to move up.

Totally agree with you ... and to be honest I am starting to get "scared" ... at first I thought the gym footage was just a run and gun test, but this is the 3rd horrible test footage I see ...

unacceptable artifacts on the FedEx plane, soft image, at :35 are those crops from the video?

EDIT: never mind ... had a chance to play with the camera and footage is amazing !

I don't think you, or anyone else for that matter, has to be scared.
The camera has the same Dragon Sensor as all the other Dragon Series Cameras, only in a smaller 4,6K Version and lower processing Power, so it can't go as high with FPS as the S-W and 6K Version, incl. a few other things like 3D-LUTs.

We already know what properly shot footage looks like, as RED already released some quite a while ago:

Anything else wouldn't really make sense, if you like the look of the DRAGON, this is not going to look drastically different or worse. :smile5:
That's what makes the RAVEN so interesting for many people, as you get the RED Features for a "relatively small price".
At least that's why I bought one.

People expect it to look like a hollywood blockbuster straight out of the camera lol. Even that weapon 8k footage in the factory looked boring simply because it was a random recording. The whole point of these cameras is to give you the potential to achieve whatever look you are striving for.

Give an iPhone to a Pro and S'he will give you a work of art.
The Raven is at a price point for any videographer out there. Most of the stuff coming out will be crapy.
What use is it to have a "16.5" latitude 4.5K resolution and professional features if you are going to use a 500mm lens with a tripods that shakes, blacks are crushed and almost everything is out of focus and fuzzy?
A cinema camera it's not a video camera. You have to work those curves on the R3D files. Every time I hear "lightly graded" I know that they couldn't squeeze everything out that image.
The camera is just a vehicle. If the driver doesn't have knowledge of where he is going, he'll never get there. At least with the RED they can show off the name. lol

Alright, I apologize if this sounds mean or presumptive, but all of this "scared" talk is absolute nonsense. The most recently shot footage looks like it is literally out of the box and the person chose to not shoot 23.98. Simple as that. No color grade, straight RedGamma 3 or 4. The FedEx plane was more than likely cropped in post, so yes, fuzzy edges and soft focus. Everyone on here complaining about test footage needs to remember that it is not the camera, but the person behind it that counts. I've seen things shot on a 5D that looked like Emmanuel Lubezki shot it and I've seen things shot on Red or Arri that look like a chimpanzee is operating the camera. It is all about your eye and what you do with it. This is what happens when a generation of camera heads (which I'm either a part of or younger than, I'm 30) are brought up focusing too much on online camera reviews and shootouts from "DP's" rather than the craft. And not accepting that there is no perfect camera, and that it is 80% your own skill set. I ordered my I/O package within the first 30 min and cannot wait for my order to be allocated. So all you complainers, respectfully, put up, move your order to the Scarlet, or drop off, please. I can't wait to get my Raven. As a former FS700/7Q kit owner it is going to be a damn dream.

Joe, we have never met, but after reading this post, I like you! If we ever have the chance to meet in the future, the first beer is on me! Hope you get your Raven soon!

Lol, thanks man. Had to get that off my chest.

Another test shot with raven.. https://vimeo.com/163214080

Footage by Full Sense Pro

For that video, try this... click on "HD" and take it off auto, my internet PC isn't fast enough to watch it in full 4K.
Even in 1080p it was much sharper.

Don't worry, I have a separate 8-core Mac for video editing, dont' ever surf the net with it. I'm kinda itching to download the original clip from vimeo and transfering to my Mac to see how it looks on that.

Couldn't agree more
