  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

SHOT ON RED Film Festival Submissions Open

Ive submitted a short I produced - and my friends who SHOT ON MY RED ONE M-X are submitting these 3 features!

The Weather Outside - Director Jason Freeman - DP Todd Freeman Starring the AMAZING but unknown Erin McGarry whom every filmmaker on here should cast... NOW.



ALL SHOT ON THAT USELESS RED CAMERA THE REDONE M-X...its so useless now... unless I want to make gorgeous indie films of course... but other than that... WAAAHHH!
 
I'd love to submit my short 'Bad Time' that I did a few months ago (took 1st place in the Portland 48hr comp) but it was graded in Resolve at 2k and neither my editor nor DP have the full copy of Resolve to bump the grade to 4k. Hmmm, too bad I couldn't submit a 1080 version for consideration then do the 4k export if chosen...

Ah, because up until page 8 Brian and Jarred had made it crystal clear that ONLY 4k submissions would be allowed, period. Then I see deep on page 8 that it got amended. Sweet! I'll submit now.
 
Can I submit under a false name? Just looking at some footage from yesterday's shoot and I'm not too happy with it. Not the camera, but everything else. Going to do some pickup shots tomorrow and see if I can salvage it, but if not... really, I don't want any thing that identifies it with me if I submit it. And the only reason I would submit it even under a false name is because of the story. I'm pleased with that.
 
2 Questions.

I have a music video, is it cool to enter that?

Also there are a few shots in it that are 3K.
At first I just threw the idea of entering this out because I figured that uprezing would be looked down upon.

Then I figured I'd just ask...
 
In the future will this film festival always be in December?
 
alright, i need an example of cast & crew bios done well. Is anyone cool enough, who has submitted to this, to send me their PDF of the cast & crew bios so I can get a sense of it? I presume it's much shorter than the more typical 1/2 to whole page per person bios. My email is nelsonentertainment at yahoo dot com

Hi Brian,

I was about to submit our film then read the terms & conditions. Just wanna clarify before submission.

(1) You guys asking for the filmmaker to release / grant RED to use only up to 3 minutes of materials from the submitted film for your marketing, etc. The subsequent paragraphs (excluding paragraph 4) are referring to this 3 mins, correct?

(2) Paragraph 3 means the entire film, right? Do you need us to provide a screener version?

(3) Right now, our film has been submitted to Sundance, Cinequest and 2 local film festivals here in Jakarta all of which won't happen till next year. After submitting to your festival, we are still allowed to submit it to other festivals, right?

Hope to hear from you soon. My team is excited to at least try to submit our film.

Music Videos are welcome to the shorts category but only if 4K is the final deliverable.

We are having some issues with our FTP server so please send via flash or hard drive if you are experiencing any upload issues, USB 3.0 or Thuderbolt interfaces are best. You can also use an FTP client such as Filezilla to upload instead of the web client, our IT team says it is more stable. If you have already uploaded we will contact you if there is a problem with your file.

As long as we get the submission forms by this Friday's deadline we can receive the drives next week.

We have been reviewing them first 75 submissions (many more to work through) and there is some very impressive work, please keep them coming.

Whew. Thought it was me. Got to about 89% completion on one attempt. Then the goblins kicked in. I'll drop off a drive.
 
This is such a great opportunity. Has anybody actually read what's in the boilerplate on the application form? Red is really taking it to heart by promoting our work, representing it to potential buyers, and who knows, maybe there will be some deals struck for 4K releases.

Sent off my app form along with a USB 3.0 drive today via Fedex. Will be a lot of fun for the Red Team regardless of whether we're selected or not...a lot of talent in this little world of ours.
 
I `ll have to upload a 1080P screener version of both my projects, the last one won`t be finished until friday morning and wil have over 40 GB, so there is no way I can finish the upload in less the 24 hours. Will we still be able to upload the 4K files via ftp server next week? Or only via drive them?
