Shot this Tuesday on Epic. 4KHD, 120fps and 2k 300fps mixed. Used the Canon Mount with the 70-200L for about 80% of it, and a little bit with the 24-70.

Can't reiterate how much I love this Canon glass on the Epic. It's sharp, light, great zoom range, everything I need to shoot ENG style. I didn't have the auto-focus beta build on the camera yet, so everything was manual focus (unfortunately, I have quite a few soft shots.) The short focus throw is killer! But I'll get used to it.

Aside from all that, I'm so in love with the Epic. It feels like a little miracle every time I turn it on. Can't wait to keep shooting...

Thank you Jonathan. I have been asking folks with the Canon mount to share some footage shot with Canon Glass. It looks great. What did you use to grade the footage? Could you also share ISO, f stop for 4K and 2K capture?

I just did a quick grade with the footage in Premier. Nothing super fancy. I could've spent more time on the interview with the kid, because it's a little too hot on the sun-side of his face, but the project was a rush job. (I also wanted to put stabilization on the piano footage, but didn't have time to dial it in).

I shot everything with 800 ISO. The football footage was about f5.6 with an ND.6 screw-in filter. The kid and coach interviews were an f4 at about 125-150mm, I had the camera about 10 feet from the subject in both cases.

Thank you Jonathan. I am buying EPIC X Stage 4. I have Canon Glasses and can't afford to invest in other lenses at this point. This is really reassuring for exterior work. 24fps will probably allow more DOF. I am now hoping to see some night interior/ chroma/lit up scenes with Canon Glasses. Best of luck.

Jonathan,

I saw the video again on full screen at Vimeo. The rain is way more visible and it's really nice. I would love to get a high resolution file and play it using HDMI on a 55" screen to see the details.
Did you experience a crop factor in 4K or 2K? Also how do you go about setting the aperture on 24-70mm, 70-200mm? Were you able to read the f stops on the display and set it from there?

Thanks,
Sulekh

Definitely crop factor at 4k and 2k since the sensor is windowed for smaller resolutions. Even at 5kFF, there's still a crop factor. I've heard it's similar to the 7D if using full frame lenses. So a 24mm is more like a 35 or so. I personally like the crop factor when dropping down in resolution because it gives you a little more length on your lenses. A 200mm lens at 2k becomes a 400ish, so I can get nice tight closeups of a kid from the sidelines.

Aperture is shown on the touch screen and is changed in the same way that you'd change white balance or shutter angle on the touch screen: tap the value, drag to your desired setting, and shoot.

I wouldn't be able to send you the full res file, it's like 9GBs, haha...

I have read that nearly all lenses are sharpest at their center, while quality degrades progressively toward to the edges. If that's the case then the 1.6X crop factor should help get the most out of Canon/ SLR lenses. What sticks did you use? Did you feel the need to support 70-200 with additional rods etc. What compression did you use for the uploaded version on Vimeo(139mb)? This is the only Epic+Canon footage on reduser at this point. That's why so many questions.
thx

Yeah, I'm surprised no one else has posted footage. No support necessary on the 70-200. The Canon mount from Red is rock solid.

I am using Manfrotto 509HD with carbon fiber legs. Very cheap/awesome alternative to the ever-popular Miller Compass.

I uploaded a 1920x1080 h.264 quicktime to Vimeo with the quality slider at 100. I probably could've found some better compression settings, but I was in a rush to get it online.
