Super fun to play with. Loved the results. Doubt it will ever get edited because of the producer's budget but I pulled stills already :)

Also on this page is an explanation of my process and some technical stuff for yay.

I'm still proudly shooting with the Epic X and jazzed with the results after the shoot. Mostly out of necessity. If I could, I would go VV 8K in a heartbeat. But my Epic has never failed me.

Helping a friend with his EPIC MX display issues.
I did some test runs and man I love the image on that.
I actually see a dif between the EPIC and my Scarlet.

What was the differences you saw from the two cameras? Curious to hear your experience.

That was over a year ago.
It just looked better in 4K DCI IMHO.
Sorry, I don't have any footage saved from that.
That was my first time with the EPIC MX.
Past REDs experiences - RED ONE, DRAGON, and newer.
I still love my Scarlet MX and would love to add an EPIC MX in the mix one day :)

Yeah, I saw that, I was just going over some posts in the Epic group and was curious to see convos.
I have both the Epic and Scarlet MX and the Epic and form what I can see, and albeit from the resolution the Epic looks amazing. However, the sensors are the same, just the processing power is different. I mean, 5K looks amazing.

I went out the other day into the forest behind my house with the Scarlet MX, here is a link to the google drive with the video in it. I was testing out two older Voigtländer lenses: a 20mm and 40mm.

I really like the IQ that comes out of the MX sensor. When not shooting slow-mo or 5K stuff, the Scarlet works a charm.

I will upload some 5K footage form my Epic MX soon, maybe in the same scenario to see if there is a difference in that regard.

My plan is next week to shoot some portraits of some artists in my local area and I might see if I can switch it up with the Epic and the Scarlet to see if there is a difference.

:)

Looking forward to that.
I live in Mid West Canada, and our winters don't look that warm and inviting ;)
Thanks for the beautiful frames.

Thank you! It is a beautiful landscape here.
I am sure that Mid West Canada has its charms!

Due to the Corona situation, this project has been put on hold. I will update when things get rolling again.

For now, here is a comparison between the two cameras, Scarlet @ 4K and the EPIC @ 5K, a Frame taken from my Patreon Videos.

There is only one from the Epic at the moment, as I have been doing the majority of my shooting with the Scarlet. I have used some different lenses to play around with how the image looks with a human subject in the frame. I noticed that the Epic, of course, renders things super sharp and tones amazingly. However, I found, if lit correctly, even if not, the Scarlet holds up just fine. Again, these applications are for the internet @ HD, so the images look great anyway.

There has been mixed compression ratios, as I was playing around with that as well, to see if there was any significant differences – and yes, there are, but for HD delivery, it is fine.

The first image, the Scarlet with Zeiss 35mm was under exposed a little and not blackshaded from the last job, so there is a little more action going on in the shadows, but nothing crazy. Lit with the Lightpanels Calibre Fresnels and diffused with 1~2 stop white fabric to give the softness if the key and back light. The WB was set to 5600k.

The second, the Epic with the 28mm Zeiss was at a 8:1 compression. Set to 5000k. I used a single KinoFlo 4bank light balanced to 4500k (no mixed tubes) and a 4500k Litepanels Fresnel with a theatre blue gel in the background. This is the more pro image out of them all. I love the colours in this scene. The Epic pops!

The third, the Scarlet with the Voigtländer 20mm was shot with 3:1 compression - mega sharp and great image pop. Camera set to the native 5000K. Colours look great. Key light is from the window, overcast day. The back light, well, you can see it: A little F&V LED.

The fourth image, the Scarlet with the Zenit 58mm f/2 (M42 mount with the EF adapter) is at a compression 15:1 ratio and looked great. Natural lighting from the windows, with curtains drawn to cut harsh light. From memory, it was not wide open and I cannot remember, as it is a clickless aperture ... I think it might have been around f/3.5 ish, maybe in between that and f/2.8. No real attention made there this time.

The last image, the Scarlet with Zeiss 21mm all natural lighting and compression 5:1 at 5600k. The sun shone through the windows hard giving some clipping and the room was bouncing all types of colours, so it ended up being warmer than expected. However, this was a quick-quick in and out job. I noticed the noise in the blacks, that was due to the room being very warm form the fireplace, which was pumping +40 degrees in the room and the sensor got a little warm (T/E) were going into the yellows whilst shooting and it was a one-take job. Blackshading was done during setup, however, I didn’t have time to do another blackshade to cater for the temperatures. So, I just have to live with some noisy shadows for this image.

So, until I get to go out and complete my project, this is a compromise for a comparison for now.

Cheers.
