Shooting On RED Starring Michael Douglas

Radiant hi,

Please tell me are you using the Panasonic 8.4" HD LCD Monitors with Waveform instead of red lcd....which cables/connestions do you use to connect red and Panasonic 8.4" HD LCD Monitors with Waveform....and how do the Panasonic 8.4" HD LCD Monitors with Waveform hold in terms of getting the focus right and keeping the overall look of the image under control...

I am considering investing into a Panasonic 8.4" HD LCD Monitors with Waveform so these info would be more than welcome...thanks...

I love using the Panasonic 8.4" HD LCD Monitors.
They are the best monitors on the market, the waveform comes in handy for
luminance measurements, the HD Zoom helps focus.

We do not use the RED LCD monitors at all.

Same here. The Red LCD is nice for menus and as a camera info display / histogram, but the real work gets done on the Panasonic 8.4. It is the best way to focus 4K and the DPs love it too. HD zoom plus the camera zoom is great for quick focus checks.

Get an Anton Bauer D-tap to 4pin XLR to power it.

Radiant hi,

Thanks for the reply...I just want to make sure we're talking about the same product - it's the panasonic field monitor BT-LH80W...btw what about the batteries....it works on anton bauer right?....do all anton bauer batteries have an universal mount...I have a couple of anton bauer that fitted onta medium size panasonic eng type of camera...do you think the would also fit this monitor???

thanks a bunch for the reply

So we are recommending the Panasonic BT-LH900A series not the BT-LH80W.

As far as battery power you can to the following:
1) Power Tap or D-Tap to XLR Cable power from red aux D-tap port to back of monitor.

2) Anton Bauer Dionic 90 or Hytron 50 batteries directly to back of the monitor.

3) If in a jam use Anton Bauer to V mount adapter to convert the back of the monitor to receive the RED Bricks. (but only do this in an emergency.

Overall Experience

Overall Experience

Yeah! :-) Thanks I love toys..

Overall how has the experience been?

How long was the principal photography?

Well Christopher,

The overall experience has been truly amazing. Especially due to the fact. This is the only feature I know about that is going to a 4K film scan, not 2k or 1k.

Peter Hyams is an amazing Director and DP, the fact we used over 6 RED camera's on this shoot. The fact we used almost every kind of gear and toys and they all worked, also the most amazing part is that we used these cameras on very complex stunts, crashes, explosions and nothing broke..

We shot for 8 weeks.

Here is some more pictures.

I'm about to order the Panasonic BT-LH900A from B&H, is there anything I need to know about physically mounting it to the camera? How did you guys have it mounted?

Thanks,

Rich

As far as image quality and the organic feel, it's not even close to film.

Hi Radiant,

I shoot with master Prime and RED One too. I feel exactly the same. Recently I view the Netcafe commercial. Much more organic. In fact, I feel that old lenses have better softness and anamorphic crank even better the DOF. Less contrast lenses give much better results, and as long as new lenses tends to give much better MTB. What do you think?

I use to only shoot on Cooke S4's and still use them on selected job's.

I feel the combination of RED & Master Primes, in low light makes a great choice.

We just performed a film out on our most recent work, starring Michael Douglas. I must say that once the it's projected on a big screen.
The Master Primes have the best overall organic look and feel.

Thanks Michael,

You are on a NDA actually? Or could you post some pic? Do you shoot wide open on master prime (1,3?)

We are mostly shoot wide open to 1.3 on the Arri Master Primes, due to the fact we mostly shoot night exterior.
How do you feel with using the Master Primes?
