Hello all,

Does anyone have any experience in shooting anamorphic in a green screen environment?

I have a shoot coming up that I'm planning on shooting on our RED Dragon and a Optimo Anamorphic 56-152 mm 2S.

Part of the shoot will be against green screen. There will be some practical lights in the shot and so keen to keep the
anamorphic flaring look, if possible.

I have only shot spherical with green screen in the past never anamorphic..

Does anyone have any experience to share on how well anamorphic flaring keys out in post, etc.
And if I shoot just treat the Anamorphic approach just like a spherical lens when on green screen.

Thanks for any insights,
Steve

Should not be too much of an issue, As I understand the Angie anamorphic element is in the back so it does not have too much chromatic aberration issues. To much flairs in greenscreen shots on the other hand can be a bit of a struggle, but if lit well and so on I would not worry to much. Better use daylight than tungsten and if using tungsten use ctb to balance at K5600...

As Björn said, with a rear element anamorphic, you won't get any flares, oval bokeh or blue streaks etc... it's essentially a de-squeeze at the end of the optical path, you'd need front ana's to get these effects.

I'd say shooting spherical will be easier - unless you're after the 'wider' aspect of the lens (ie a 35mm being 17.5mm hfov).

It could be a good idea to shoot a test with the Optimo for the non-green screen part of the shoot - and make sure the lens is giving you the anamorphic aesthetic you require for the job.

It is a really clean lens and not very anamorphic in feel...Do you want some greater than 2.35 odd aspect ratio? Or is it just for the anamorphic look?

Knowing you Steve I'd recomed swapping for 2or3 modern anamorphic primes and have some more fun (unless you need to zoom in shoot)... I've got an idea give us a call tomorrow

Hello Björn,

Thanks for the reply. I'm tempted by the Optimo Anamorphic 56-152 mm as it feels like it will have enough ana character
without too much glitzy flaring. With it being 'modern' I'm hopefully keying out won't be too painful. Good to know on the
chromatic aberration. Thanks for the knowledge!

Hi Andy,

I've had a quick play with the Optimo Anamorphic 56-152 mm. Your right its not dramatic on the flaring.
I'm looking for something which produces a clean image, good on skin but has some anamorphic character.
Also, a lens that can sit on our Steadicam all day, shoot location work and then move onto green screen without a
losing the key with a muddy image. Thanks for thoughts! Steve

Morning M, partly driven by putting the lens on a Steadicam for some of the shoot and your butter smooth rig set up for the rest. Will buzz this morn. S.
