  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sharp " The art of Amazing " Film Competition

For future consideration: To soften the US only legalities, could the Art of Amazing have an 'out of competition' section: no prizes other than the acknowledgement of achievement?

Anyway, this should be very interesting, looking forward to the shorts and, hopefully, seeing the creative behind the faces on reduser.

What rights to the footage to they get if you enter ?
Sometimes they use these contests to scoop up a bunch of demo footage on the cheap.

Does anyone know what's going on with this contest? Viewing was supposed to open yesterday online but there is zilch on the site with sharp saying they would be getting entries up throughout Monday the 15th.

I have a theory. I think they may have underestimated the time it takes to send 4k files over the Internet. I tried to upload a 138 GB TIFF sequence to Dropbox and the downloader kept estimating 15 to 20 days before completion. This was after I bought Dropbox in order to get the 1 TB space.

I did manage to get the preview file up early so that was available. It was only a little over 1 GB. Any way, I called the Sharp rep and she said if I mailed it on a HHD and it got there by the weekend, they would accept it, since they had the preview file. (Hope I get my 750 GB 2.5" HDD back... that plus the almost $20 for Priority Mail and Dropbox fee made this "free" contest pretty expensive '-)

Anyway, I'm thinking that putting 15 finalist super files into something viewable is taking more time than they imagined.

I am extremely proud to announce that our short "The Lion" has won the Grand Price of this year's competition.
Congratulation to the director/producer Anthony Gilmore and the entire team at NAMELESS PRODUCTIONS.
Also huge thanks to DJI, PARALINX, ALLSTAR and ARK VIDEO for their support and help with the project.
Especially we could not have done this without the Ronin and the Tomahawk...

Congratulations!

As a non-winner, I would like to thank Sharp and RED and the other sponsors for putting on such a fine competition.

The only fault I find with it is that they haven't sent back my 750 GB 2.5 inch HDD, even though I put one of those return address labels on it and on the box I sent it in as well. '-)

Big congrats to "The Lion" which won top prize. It was really great to spend time with the other filmmakers and running about San Fran.

For many of the finalists it was the first time they saw their work in 4K, let alone projected in 4K.

Also.

Really, really big thanks to Sharp, THX, RED, Lucasfilm, and Pixar.

We were able to go on a rather intimate tour and were extremely fortunate to sit down and chat with several of Pixar's Directors and Story Artists.

To me that made this particular experience truly amazing. The advice, humor, and discussion were very much appreciated.

Thanks Matt! We didn't have the full 5:30 version ready in time for the competition but here it is. A short documentary about Dusty and his father Buddy not wanting him to repeat the same mistakes that he did...
