  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sharp 4K Film Competition

Interesting : Sharp is investing costs for a trip approx 5000 USD and the costs for a screen maybe another 5000 USD. And for 10.000 USD of cost they get filmmakers working for free for them. Taking their equipment looking for the best shot. No need to hire an expensive crew or creative team.

I personally will not (even if I could) participate into this. Have a close read, if they are allowed to use your material even if you don't win.

Sorry guys, this is making use of your time and efforts, little risk for them. And work for you !

International contest laws prohibit most companies from opening up outside their borders.. The legal fees alone to even do the groundwork to set up an international contest exceeds the budget that most companies spend on the prizes and marketing for all contests in their entire lifetime... and given how often those laws change you would need to pay that expense every time you ran a contest.

The US even is a nightmare within itself... there are some states that require you to fill forms and pay all sorts of contest filing fees if the contest is open to their residents and if you don't pay it its a criminal offence...

Leaning back in chair shaking head....

Send the telly here. (offshore) I send it to the winner as a gift. Done... Law bounced.

Meh, I work a lot, shooting corporate and local commercials, this to me is not work, it is my fun time, something I would be doing anyways so why not try and win? And if I were to see my work in a sharp commercial or something I would say "hey cool that was me". Where I'm at right now, it would be very hard to work on a national sharp project so I guess I would feel privileged? Not to mention the exposure alone. I see your point that they are possibly getting something awesome for very little, but to me it feels like a win win... Also... GIANT TV!!! ME WANTEEE!!! :)

That s sound pretty cool, I'll have to make a trip into the city for a visit?\

How do we bring in our own footage? A hard drive with R3Ds?

We have the 70" Sharp 4K TV in a new "4K Review Suite" we have created at OFFHOLLYWOOD for cinematographers to review thier camera tests and for people to check out 4K via REDRAY. It's a fantastic monitor and it's amazing how much bigger it feels than a 65".

Man I'm close, still acquiring the gear and the A team and I'll create my story...

Thanks for making cool contests to pour our creative energy into!

We just got the Sharp 70" 4K display in a few weeks ago and its pretty incredible... It's not surprising that it is the first THX certified 4k monitor. We are proud to have teamed up with Sharp for " The Art of Amazing" contest to give you guys a chance to win one.

Is there to value in creating a film for a 4k final screening? Value in getting off your butt and creating a film? What about the experience at the festival? Seems like a good combonation of captalistm, marking and creative art. Sure Sharp might not need our support, even RED might not but what's the goal, what's the vision? Can't we all work towards a 4k reality? Is that not good for all of us?

Must be filmed in 4K, and submitted in 4K (4096x2160)....

That is to say, we have to originate and deliver at 4096x2160? There's no shooting in 5K and rendering out 4K? Seems pretty black and white and yet I felt I should ask. :D

And I felt I should also ask... this is about shooting, not animation nor visual effects? So how do things such as effects play into the final piece?

Since RED is a sponsor I'd be you can shoot 4k, 5k, 5.5k, 6k if you get a Dragon, just have the final as 4k out.

Wonder what format they want this outputted file?

Correct. And DPX sequence is fine.

So I just skimmed through this thread, and before I go into creativity mode. So can we do this without a US adress, or no?

I'm available to collaborate with folks who happen to be a in a different country.
