  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

(Sorry, I accidentally edited over this post when I meant to reply to it. The original question was -- I think -- how to get an underexposed look without getting noise from actual underexposure, nor a crushed look from simply darkening a normally-exposed shot.)

If you don't want noise but want that "thin" underexposed look, then basically you want to underexpose your highlights slightly, don't lift the brightness in post (because you'll get noise) but lift the black level - because it's that milkiness you seem to want, rather than deep blacks. You just don't want the noise, you want a low-contrast image with weak blacks and dim highlights. So don't underexpose much at all. You can also try using UltraCon filters or other filters that lower contrast and lift the blacks, like Tiffen Smoque, Schneider DigiCon, etc.

dunnot change to bright
just not change and down the exposure
try contrast blacks without sucess

David how can i do this?
please post and example
i iam trying to lift black and getty muddy looks
plus the other scenes have deep blacks doesn't match with this scene if i do that
the highlights is already dim, actualy this is a real flat source of light.

there look to seem artifacts from red in underxposure areas transitions of shadow areas
with shadows with a little more light
try to expose little up and down the exposure or contrast the scene
but no sucess.
the DP is having real problems.
He already said that this is the film language?
what i do!????? please, help me David

no this i posted is the flat image from rec 709 rec 709
the final look is to be more contrast and deep blacks.
and look very underxposed
