  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Seriously...

Oh wow!!!!

Jim...you weren't kidding :-)

RedGamma2 ftw!!

ISO 1000 on both shots. NOTHING else done, didnt touch the curves, sat, etc.

Also the rock looks much better in RedGamma2!

biggest advancement for me....it has directly affected my color correction on three features I have in post and on the one I am currently shooting. I actually think the Alexa had the most pleasing skin tone reproduction, but now with these new advances I'd say the differences are about gone.......so, so happy and thankful that the work continues for the sole sake of making the imagery better. I have not posted much in a while, but the new color and gamma are really astounding. Thanks guys for such fantastic work!

AFAIK Apple will have to do the SDK update + hopefully add the curve... -:)

I doubt apple will do any update to any of its pro video software as it currently is (especially not an SDK update). Either they are actually finally releasing one of their secret developments (which in my >opinion< are not professional oriented (think motion)) or they let the whole line die a long painful death (like they did with shake).

THanks for posting these images. I cant wait for the day I get to work with this camera!

This pretty much covers the gamut of usefulness of RAW files. From simple web output to the giant movie screen equivalent to film, all from the same original file. Some people refer to Red Digital Cinema as not being a mature company... I beg to differ. They take the mature approach to all things visual while so-called "mature" companies follow the child-like theory of deciding for the customer what they will allow from their cameras.

Ok, Jim, I finally got a chance to check it out on some footage we shot last night, and redgamma2 is a huge improvement over rg1. The contrast that exists in the shadows is what really makes it sing. Just a little massaging and the footage just pops off the screen.

Great work. I just wish I had time to re-grade a few old projects now.

Genisis? yeah

Alexa? not quite rips the skin off of... more like gives it a little, itty, bitty bruise.

But it still wins. This is really great! It's not like it's adding information that wasnt there, RC2 and RG2 are just a sample interpretation.

I definitely wont be using RC2 or RG2 through the eyepiece though. I want that to look as much like an optical finder as possible.

Dan, I was kind of referring to the skin rendition on these cameras, which has been their forte/main strong point.

This update rips the skin off both the Genesis and Alexa...
No offense but the Genesis was released early 2005... I just can't wait to see what Panavision bring to the table when they release images from their new sensor next year. I'm sure it will be nothing short of spectacular.
