  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Seriously...

Ok! So give a newbie a little lesson please. I'm shooting with Red One M sensor and want to edit with Vegas Pro 10. I bet I dont see the advantages of this new colour science if I just drag and drop my R3D files to Vegas right?

So whats your suggested workflow for what Im looking for to get the best out of the M sensor?

Thanks!

Sami

The old curves are all still there - you just have to turn them on in preferences.

The new redgamma is amazing , but Is it possible back with rec709 and linear gamma in redcine-x ? (please)

Older options are there. Go to prefs and check Advanced Controls.

I'd always been a complainer about the dull gray skin tones in Red footage. The shadows would get murky, there was too much color in the highlights-- correct the face, and the lips would turn magenta.

Fixed.

My colleague shot vision 3 16mm, Red M, 5d, 7d, side by side. It's pretty amazing how close the red is to the film when graded thru redlogfilm. Missing some range and the beautiful halation, but man, a huge improvement.

We noticed how the halftone saturation is where it needs to be. (The halftone is a term painters use to describe the object color just before the core shadow). The saturation is controlled and the contrast rolls off in the highlighs.

I'd like to think that that characteristic dull shadow 'tell' that red had is going to disapear.

Looking forward to running them though I've been too busy at the moment. Thanks for the update!!

I'm editing a film in Premiere CS5. Is it possible to take advantage of REDcolor2 and REDgamma2, or would I need to wait until Adobe integrates it into the "source settings"?

I just shot another 7-camera live rock concert, and this version came out just in time, I definetly love the skin tones in redcolor2!
And RED just delivers and delivers and delivers, shooting RED on concerts is just a joy - Thank you!

*Now we just need Epic out the door, and life would be perfect!

Thanks Eirik, it's great to hear how things work in a wide variety of environments!

No time to read through the whole thread, so please excuse me if I'm restating anyone.

Not only does this company periodically give us new cameras via free download but the freakin' CEO REPOSTS just to make sure everyone gets it and uses it! Are you listening Mr. (whatever-your-name-is) Sony/Panasonic/Canon?

The new colour science looks gorgeous - and I hadn't quite stopped oohing and aahing over the new sensor yet. Thanks heaps. Red rocks!

Could those using the new science post some frame grabs of their footage with it?
It would be nice to see examples in varying conditions with it.

Cannot post, but by tomorrow I will have been going through 90 minutes of TV drama with it, and redcolor2 has been performing unbeliveably comfortable together with redlogFilm. For the occational shot I go redlog.

It's simply a dream to work with.

Dear me! Hello Adobe 1998!! hah!

I have just been playing around with all the legacy settings - what I found interesting is that when i switch colour spaces, RedColor2 seems far more similar to the old RedSpace than it does to RedColor - it is a very subtle refinement. The difference in the gamma settings on the other hand is rather dramatic.

RedSpace colorspace was actually quite nice, Nick Shaw pointed out to me. I just totally overlooked it because I really didn't like the gamma with the same name...

You can't imagine the number of clients who this confused the hell out of here in Tokyo. "But it is a colour space AND gamma??"

Oh wow!!!!

Jim...you weren't kidding :-)

RedGamma2 ftw!!

ISO 1000 on both shots. NOTHING else done, didnt touch the curves, sat, etc.
