  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Sensor moving on Epic Dragon

There's noway that the sensor is loose. Back focus slightly out, camera mount not tight, lens mount shims/loose adapters...one grain of sand between the PL mount and the lens port flange.
The reason red might be offering a non tunable option is for people/rental houses that have/send out collimated lenses.

No one said the sensor is loose Brett...

BUT in the right circumstances, it can *slowly* shift X-Y due to vibrations and such.

I GUARANTEE you if you try the same lens which hard vignette on 6K along with the same PL mount on 10 different DSMC / DSMC2 bodies and grab an R3D each,
the useable coverage would be different, because of the asymmetrical sensor position in relation to the center.

If some of the brains have been recently serviced at RED, probably the sensor would be quite centered, of course.

Try it yourself.

BTW, I'd say 95% of owners of PL Lenses have their set checked and collimated.

Jarred is smart and want RED client base to have the right tools for the job, that's why has in the works the fixed sensor mount.

Most users are better served with the tuneable mount (especially with the Canon Mount paired with EOS mounted lenses with hard infinity focus which is often off!!!)

BUT in some instances a fixed solution is the way to go, even if it means loosing the on the fly adjustment capability.
