Hello RED Gang,

I wanted to post my second adventure with my Scarlet non-dragonfied :) I decided to take the camera through the paces of a run'n'gun doc style shoot. Capturing talking on the fly, shooting in uncomfortably tight spaces, low light, bright light, changing light, etc. This camera is amazing, wish I had more time to make short films, only my second outing with the camera in 3 months. Always helps to have a great subject. Only obstacle I ran into was card space. Would have been nice to have a 128gb card for the interviews. Only had to switch once in the middle of an interview but with a 128GB card I would have been totally fine. Let me know what you think. I wanted the film to have a gritty NYC feel to it to match both my personal taste and the flavor of the subject (pun intended).

Just wanted to add that this was shot at 2K using old s16 pl mount lenses.

Eff'n loves it. Great work Evaan. Love the pace, cutting and really like the grade. Certainly a nice/gritty NYC feel
Really nice work, my only comment is that we get to see your shadow in one of the back lit market scenes, no biggie though.

Do mind sharing some info regarding your sound / audio workflow and your grading process. Was he wearing a lapel? Or did you shotgun it.

Thanks Evaan and Luisa for all that wonderful work.

I love waking up to this section of REDuser.

Very inspiring and helps me get up and try to make something anything for others to enjoy :)

Thanks Guys for the wonderful words. I will have a look at the shadow in the market. I put myself into a couple shots on purpose a la Hitchcock but that wasnt one of them :) I used a Zeiss Mark II 8mm 1.3, Zeiss Mark II 35mm 1.3 and and Angeniuex 10-120 2.2. I really enjoyed shooting in 2k. Made the edit a little easier and of course the older super 16 lens provided the character I needed for the shots. Audio was captured via the roland r26. This device is amazing. I was able to put a lav on him and capture 2 additional channels of ambient that I was then able to blend in to bring some of the city into the mix. It was all graded in RedCine-X, what an amazing application.

Loved it Evaan. Lots of character throughout. He looks like a young Micky Rourke :)

Thanks Kirk ! He totally looks like a young Rourke :)

Hi Francisco,

I am pretty sure I used the standard redlog gamma setting. Curves are varied from clip to clip. I can post some presets if I can figure out how to export them

Hi Bob,

Shooting at 2k for sure took down some of the harshness that can happen in 4k. My compression is probably not all that amazing either. I just exported it quickly out of Premiere Pro. It looks sharper in my time line then on the vimeo feed. I'm going to experiment with a few different export settings but with smaller clips, this export took 9 hours, it was painful. If you have any secret Premiere Pro export tricks please send them my way. The lenses also contributed a lot to the look and I shot pretty shallow most of the time. I find the newer lens like the Zeiss CP's are just too sharp. I don't need to count peoples hair or let them know its time to trim their nose hairs :) I am excited about the upcoming Dragon, I will go for the scarlet dragon as having the extra iso for what I shoot is going to be incredible. The Scarlet Dragon to me is the ultimate indie filmmakers camera and will become a cinematic icon very soon. I wish everyone at RED knew what an impact they have made on the world and that everything they are doing to get these tools in our hands is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Adam, I appreciate you taking the time to watch the film, cheers

Excellent work. Sounds, images, music, subject matter, it's all presented and put together so well.

I like what you've done with these too.

Btw, is this one scarlet footage - http://vimeo.com/62137653 (Aritzia-Wilfred Free)? Really like the b+w look of that.

Hope you manage to get out there and film more stuff, would like to see the results.

Really great feeling of energy and movement throughout. Liked it overall a lot.
Framed a tad too low in some of the walking shots, cutting a little too much off the top of the head for my taste, but that is a minor quibble.

Hi Les,

The Painter was shot on the scarlet. Night Moves is the 5d Mark III and the Aritzia shoot was actually done on a Nikon d5000.
