  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Really nice looking images. Looks like you took the tram (or whatever its called) to Roosevelt Island and back for some of the arial shots in the beginning? I did that too. they came out great.

That is indeed the 57th street Tram. I had to ride it back and forth 6 times to get the spot on the Tram that I needed for the shot :) Pretty amazing thing to have in a city
 
I was going to comment about that Tram shot..
I've got the same exact shot going to be used on a project I'm working on.. I was surprised at how stable the end shot were..:-)

It took a few tries to discover where the best spot on the Tram for a stable shot would be. I had my assistant push up against me to prevent me from any shake or wobble. I'd love to take a heli around sometime to get some sweeping shots of the city

I had a very basic hand held setup using the top plate, a hoodman cover for the 5in touch and a back plate so I could easily press the camera tight against my chest. It worked awesome, any heavier and it would be to cumbersome to run around with. I am a photographer so using a shoulder rig is just so awkward for me, I prefer to hold it a Hassie :)

Can you show me the picture of your setup here? I really thought that a well rigged Scarlet is cumblesome for run and gun. I use JVC HDV101E for most of my work but will go RED pretty soon and the type of your works might just
provide the extra motivation.

Hi Ricky,

Next time I shoot I will take a snap of my rig but it is seriously barebones. It's basically the starter kit with a top plate and thats really it. I bought the cinema oxide mics for the front to get ref audio and thats about it

I haven't visited Exchange Alley yet but I noticed that Gerard's partner is Billy Gilroy. He recently opened Los Americanos down on Church Street.

Gilroy's a guy that could easily give you more red meat for a similar docu (if you're in the market) and the food at Los Americanos is simple but sublime.
 
I really enjoy your film Evaan.
Maybe it's because of his black jacket but Chef Paul remind me a bit of Anthony Bourdain.
Well done, the opening from the aerial subway is stuning.
