  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Secced Tripods

As the 2nd owner and 15 year user of a now at least 17 year old Sachtler video 20 mk2 with aluminum legs... I note that my nearly 2 decades old tripod and head is still sealed, smooth, and able to handle the weight of a fully loaded camera... can't say that about the numerous Manfrotto/Bogen/Daiwa/ or even pre-ulitimate O'connor's I have used and or owned..
though.. the O'connor's are fuly rebuildable and durable.. they just arent very variable on drag..

Since you've all been kind and helpful with tips, I have one question in regards to sticks.

Would I really need a Quick Release Platform Bolt-on?

Dovetail lets you shift balance forward and backwards. Quick Release err ... lets you quick release! It's good to have both, but dovetail is more essential.

Thanks Eric.
That was very helpful :)

This is tough shopping for RED :P
But it sure is fun when items get delivered ;)

I was referring to the RED quick release dovetail plate. It has a dovetail on the bottom what lets you slide the whole quick release base forward and backward, with the RED DSMC Quick Release stuff on the top to accept the camera. Really helpful when on sticks.

Update on the Secced Reach 7.

Tested the Reach 7 and it looks solid however a problem with one of the lower clamping lever.
It seems to not hold when adding weight.

Im testing this with my body weight of course so I am sure the beefiest rig wont cause any issues.
I will need to ask the vendor on how this can be fixed.

My only other tripod kit experience is a Sachtler 20 and 18 head on cf sticks.
For 2300 US rated at 40lbs its not bad.

Only thing I dont like is the floor spreader.

Wanted to bump this...

Any anyone had any new experiences with Secced? Looking into the Reach 9 Kit, but it's hard to find anything about them online.

Tested the Reach 7 not bad veyr promising.

Only thing I know about the Reach 9 is that it comes with the mid spreader.

Trevor,

You do know that the DSMC "platform" will indeed slide onto "traditional" dove tail plates too, right? You get the BEST of both worlds! Yeah, baby! Yah!

Revisiting this thread.
I couldnt pull the trigger with the Secced since other RED parts had to be purchased first.

I am still on the fence with the FSB-8 due my shooting style.
You know, the "I am broke and wont know when Ill be able to afford a rig soon" kind :)

So at the moment, the FSB-8 is most enticing.

Budgeting for this purchase so if anyone else has any input, please chime in anytime ;)

Hi

I'm considering Secced to mount as a permanent head on my slider, but I need to know one thing... Maybe someone here can chime in.
Does the Secceds allow unmounting the bowl thus, becoming a flat base head ?

I have a Cartoni Sigma, a Ronford F7 and a Sachtler 18 and I would to have an extra cheap head like their 75mm setup for Scarlet one-man crew jobs.

Secced Tripods are Fantastic!

Secced Tripods are Fantastic!

I've had a Reach Plus 6 Kit by Secced for a couple of years now, and I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed with the durability and functionality of this tripod.
The impressive 65kg payload is definitely a big plus considering the tripod itself weighs under 15 kilos.
I'm a really big fan of the graded drag system as well...being able to see number values on a dial makes it really easy to adjust, and to determine pre-set preferences for different camera set ups. And as for control...the pan drags are really smooth and consistent everytime, and I've been nothing but pleased in the results.
I know that Sachtler tripods are great, but they were just not in my price range...Secceds tripods really do stand up to the test of time as far as longevity and control are concerned, and I dont regret my purchase at all.
Plus the 3 year warranty is quite reassuring when considering the investment. Definitely recommend!
