  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone here use this brand?
Seems like a Sacthler knock-off.
I know I should spend over 3K on a good tripod but what if this product comes close at under 2.5K?
Looking at the Reach 7 rated close to 40lbs.
 
What I really don't understand about these rip-off brands is why they won't bother to change even the COSMETICS, even just enough that it takes more than a GLANCE to see who their "inspiration" is. It'd be neither difficult nor expensive and it would significantly decrease the number of potential customers who look closely enough to realize what they're up to and steer clear.

I for one dont like the idea of ripping off another company by using cosmetics.
If I do go with Secced, first thing I would do is put Independent Skateboard Trucks stickers on both sides :)
 
I don't know this particular situation but one thing that occurs to me when I see a "knockoff" product that looks a lot like a brand name is that, perhaps, the knockoff company is actually the one producing the product for the brand name and, due to whatever contractual loopholes that might exist, decide to offer the same product at a lower price. Possible?

Local vendor suggested this and worded it this way "...which are an offshore version of the Sachtler line".
I honestly dont care as long as I hear a few folks that stand by it.
When I have big boy money then Ill get a Sacthler ;)
 
Yes that happens Terry. But I think in Sachtlers case, I believe they are made in Costa rica? In any case, I can't even find a place that sells these succed tripods, or at least one that sells to my country.

Bob MidCan here in Winnipeg sells them.
I will at least test one out before buying.
My only experience with sticks are Sachtler 20 at work.
I will use that as a barometer :)
 
Looks nice, but I would just look for a used 1030 then buying a knock off. They last forever and are easy to repair. Just like building a car, you don't wanna skimp on your bottom end after you just put in a big block.

Thanks Jon I will give that a try too.
Just looking at specs, 100mm, carbon sticks, 40 lbs is very enticing.
Im just thinking what if these guys got it right at that price?
I mean, everyone deserves a chance right?
 
Cosmetic imitation means little. Think of all the cars these days that look pretty much the same. It's what's under the hood that counts. I personally would never buy Chinese brand anything unless I had a chance to try it out. Their reputation for shoddy QC sets some truly low standards. GMP makes fine batteries, so their are the exceptions. If anyone out there who's owned both Secced and Sachtler could tell us objectively how they can compare, that'd be great. Or better yet, who has them in the US where we can try it out?

A little unfair since its a Sachtler 20 against whatever they have sitting at the shop.
 
I have tested various Secced tripod models and I would put their fluid feel above Manfrotto, but build quality definitely not as good. However some of them had too much play for my taste. I would HIGHLY recommend testing one out before buying. The specs on paper don't mean much! And make sure you put your camera on the tripod when you test it!

Regarding why these Chinese ripoffs looks so similar to the original: Its about image to the client. I live in Asia and am exposed to a much larger array of Chinese ripoffs than you can imagine. A lot of people buy these ripoffs just to look PRO to their clients. For example, there are several brands of Chinese lights that look just like ARRI's. All for the same reason...the client has seen ARRI's and Sachtlers, but they are not production people so they haven't looked closely enough to be able to tell the difference. And when the Chinese copy, they often don't know why they are copying certain features so they often miss the point. On the other hand sometimes after a few bad tries they do get it quite right. Yes, they are some quality Chinese ripoffs, and as far as tripods are concerned, I would say this is one of the better one's I've seen. But again...I repeat please personally TEST it before buying. It ain't a Sachtler, but it may be good enough for you. Its quite popular here in Thailand. Personally I'm a Miller kinda guy.
 
Bob / Eric Thanks for the contact. I used one of these in the uk and to be honest I couldn't tell if I was using a Sachtler or the knock off. There are quiet a few distributor back in uk. Particular online stores in Europe.
