probably a simple question but here goes. Can someone explain the difference between applications that use the sdk and those that do not? In a recent Post magazine article it reads "Adobe recently retooled their Creative Suite to deliver high performance in 64-bit operating systems. The speed gains in After Effects, Premiere and Encore allow quick and simple use of native Red RAW files in these applications. The new features presented at NAB include the full set of Red debayering and color adjustment controls. Adobe's implementation of REDCODE delivers high throughput because it does not depend on the Red SDK."

So what are the essential differences?

We are are a DS Nitris house and plan to use Metafuze to create offline dnxhd media and then open the raw? native ? R3d files in the Nitris. I'm assuming that both metafuze and DS Nitris are SDK apps?

Also I'm assuming that RED Rocket will accelerate Metafuze when its released.

so i guess my question is in one of two categories - its too stupid to answer or there is no answer

Some vendors such as Adobe and Assimilate have direct access to Redcode and can write their own decoding code. Others must link to the Red SDK which provides the decoding capabilities. The idea that it's by nature not fast to use the SDK is a presumption.

The real question here is going to be whether the apps that use their own approach to decode RED CODE will be supported by RED ROCKET...

Assimilate has already announced that Red Rocket will work with Scratch from day 1.

REDrocket acceleration will be available via the SDK so all apps currently supporting REDcode will have access to that.
