  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Schneider ND Group Buy

We have Wayne checking with Formatt to see if they are willing to go higher with glass.. Waiting on an answer.

They are getting so many requests, they gotta start thinking it's worthwhile

I like reading such posts. Can you please describe what the TBD and TGG do? I pretty much understand the 4Pt. Sorry, I'm a newbie with glass. I know I'm getting ND's a Pola and can't remember the other. I'm not really crazy about adding anything that can be done in post.

If you're interested in getting more info on filters, you can find a lot of great posts on this message board under that term. The Black Diffusion and GlimmerGlass filters are discussed at: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5717.

That thread also has a post in which David Mullen discusses his 50-50 rule on the use of filters on camera vs. application of filters in post.

We found out the 1.8's are in very short supply so if you need one soon you should probably buy what filmtools.com has - which is a couple. The 1.5's don't exist yet. We've got a few 1.8's on the way - which is literally all they had. They'll be making a lot more in the future due to RED.

Schneider knows all about RED. We actually got a hold of their ND designer asked about "HD" ND filters and he in essence said "yeah, other companies may have needed to fix their ND's because they had some issues. He got a little more specific about what he thought of their competition but let's just say they are proud of what they do. He did say very heavy ND's are much more difficult to design because color imperfections are magnified (at least that's the way I interpreted it).

He added ND's should be closest to the lens and polarizers furthest away. If you're getting reflections between stacked filters you can angle the filters (Arri matte box?) or use gaffe tape to angle them in other matte boxes.

(these comments are from my recollection of written notes my friend took when he spoke with the rep)

come on do us a favor - spill the beans - what did he say about other company's NDs - & which company??

But the polarizer usually goes into the bellows adapter. So it's closest to the lens.

Does this mean that we need to get a rectangular polarizer and a three stage mattebox?

Hey, it was news to me that's why I posted it. Like always, some testing is in order.

joelnet, Don't know if you have picked a vendor yet for this group purchase but the same vendor who did the O'Connor group purchase is also working closely with Schneider and he's trying to put together a really sweet deal.

So, when can we pull the trigger on this? I just ordered a full set of ND's and linear tru-pola from filmtools.com only to get a call noting the 1.8ND and pola are out of stock. I've requested they hold the entire shipment until everything is available. I'm only saving $130 by going with a group purchase that might involve unexpected delays. (No offense meant to those who are doing their best to organize this deal.)

I'm expecting my #414 in a couple weeks. I'd really like a fine set of ND's to shoot outdoors.

[edit] Nevermind. I just read JJ's post about the new delivery schedule.
