  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Schedule Update?

when did they take the latest off of may or june? i know that wasnt set in stone, neither has any other date in teh last two years, but when did someone say differently? just curious

They were anticipating May, June for Scarlet before they had the problems with the first ASIC run in November I think. Then they were anticipating the Tattoo beta program starting around the end of the year. At this point I don't think anyone will even suggest a schedule until Tattoos are in the field and everything is looking pretty solid and trouble free in the beta tests. Hopefully we will at least get a progress report soon.
As Jarred said it will be done when its done.

The first asic issues occurred earlier in november before they announced the may/june idea. I agree it's obviously not the official report and until tattoos come around we won't have a good idea of the actual release date, but I keep reading people saying that it's been stated as "late summer" or "fall" and I just searched through all of jannard's posts dating back to the november announcement and found nothing of the sorts said from him. I just wanted to know what the last word from him was really. Sorry for the confusion.

but....

they did in the November announcement. Any who, bottom line is no one knows the date it'll come out and last they said was may/june but who knows...

What is the Tattoo program that I keep hearing about?

Yep, Jarred did give an estimated time line didn't he? Who knows, they may still be pretty close to that one. I certainly hope so too. Should know more by NAB for sure.

Scarlet Timeline

What is the Tattoo program that I keep hearing about?

At the Feb 13th RED day, they made it pretty clear that the Scarlet was going to be at least a couple months past the previous May/June timeline.

As for Tattoo. Go check the EPIC section on the RED.com site. It's all there.

See the RED DAY... Feb 13th thread: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38859 'Late summer' was being thrown around by some who attended, this is one of Jim's posts (around 320/page 32):
I think in one of the sessions I did say "If we don't make summer, I'll be suicidal (tongue in cheek)". A bit over the top to make the point that we are late and it will kill me (figuratively) if we don't finish up by then. You had to be there. This is why I don't do magazine interviews... :-)

i was at that session of red day, it was pretty funny. when the q and a session was going on i could literally feel the elephant in the room was the scarlet release question and as soon as the youngest dude in the room stepped up and asked the audience shuddered and everyone kinda laughed nervously. it seemed as if that wasn't a question that should be asked yet it was the question everyone wants an answer to. Jannard did make it clear that the scarlet is a priority which was good enough for me.

Hmm

Hmm

So it sounds like it has been pushed back from May / June estimate (we all know it was only an estimate, so it can't really be "pushed back," I know) to perhaps mid to late summer. I kind of suspected that may be the case.

Anyway, I decided to shoot my feature this July with the RED One, didn't want to be relying on the Scarlet and obviously the RED is a fantastic camera, I'm going to be really excited to be working with it. My first shoot with the RED.

I'm not in a real hurry to get the Scarlet but I would definitely enjoy having the fixed lens scarlet for higher-end corporate work. Usually our HVX200s are fine and I am not making enough money to be honest to justify changing our whole work flow, but the Scarlet is inexpensive enough that it makes sense to pick one up for some of the local commercials we do or bigger clients, and also I'm getting really sick of the whole P2 card reader not working with Snow Leopard so I'm anxious to move away from the HVX200s within a year anyway. This year, though, I'm happy to get more use out of my cameras and they have certainly served me well.

Its unbelievable that this doesn´t work still! Very annoying indeed.

I don't remember anyone saying anything like that (at least, not in this thread)...

My decision not to invest in the RED ONE was purely a financial one, not anything to do with Scarlet (in fact, I've been on these forums and DVXUser's RED forums since long before even the R1 was released). I just haven't had the funds to drop $30K into a camera package. That's why I'm totally pumped about Scarlet - and I don't mind waiting, since it's only got better and better since the early announcements. I'd just like to see them open the floodgates when Scarlet's released since the existing owners already have first crack on the EPICs and have enjoyed many privileges in the past...

Same here, I was on dvxuser because I actually owned a DVX100 (still do, but it's not donig much these days). I remember when the RED discussions started over there and I've been following it ever since. I really wanted a RED ONE but couldn't afford it. It's the only reason I didn't put down the 1000$ to get a place high in the list back then.

I was really hoping they will do something similar with the scarlet, let people who've been waiting for it for a long time get a pre-order with some down payment and maybe give the link only here in the forum. I think having to wait for users of the RED ONE doesn't make sense, I thought that was just for the EPIC release process and has nothing to do with Scarlett.

However, even if I don't like having to wait longer, it's not like I have much choice, the alternatives in the market right now are good but not close to RED (it remains to be seen how the scarlet compares, but based on the RED track record, I have a good feeling about it)

So realistically not before November 2010, a year after all the hoopla. Shame.

RED math.

In all seriousness I really Laughed out Loud

But time delays have now become ok with me now. I couldn't wait any longer so I bought all new gear (5D Mark ll) and a set of Zeiss ZFs, so I can at least begin to make $$$ wile we await the release.

So what I've decided is I'll just wait until the Scarlet S35, which I wanted all along; but couldn't afford comes out, and I'll just buy that, instead of me just setteling for the 2/3rd Cinema. Since now i'll be able to earn some coin now that I actually have my own gear again.
