  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

It isn't the camera it's the story, there have been good movie made on DV. In the long run this camera is going to make allot of filmmakers dreams come true I for one can't wait to t see them.

there is going to more after market crap for this camera, it going turn this toy as the Hoff puts it into a real movie making machine. More quality cams in hands of passion filled filmmakers the better

Whether it's Scarlet, RED One, or Epic... listening to what the customer wants (to a reasonable extent) is another reason why I feel that most of the customers here stand by, want, and support RED- as they do to their customers.

When I bought my F-900 from Sony, (serial #10100) I was told by my Sony dealer that it was the first F-900 (after Panavision got theirs) to hit the market. I believe it was, 'cause I was getting phone calls from every rental house wanting to rent it. My dealer helped get it to me first, as we were taking it underwater immediately in a housing built by Amphibico, in which I consulted on. It cost me $92,500.00 just for the body!!! Anyway...where I am am going with this is here; Sony promised many features would be available with this system....that never happened! Their support was Shit to say the least. They never contacted anyone as far as I know regarding updates. Updates had to happen at Sony, recalls were never sent out, some of their repairs on accessories were more expensive then the items themself, the list goes on. And when approached at NAB, no one had an answer on anything. One Sony suit pointed to the next Sony suit, who referred me to the next suit, who's English got progressively worse when the question was related to support and feedback. 'F' Sony.

RED will get every penny I have to spend on gear today and in the future because of their support, dedication, knowledge, leadership, imagination, engineering, and passion....from every single member of the RED Team. One cannot put a price on that.

Phewww...looks like I can skip therapy for today.

This time Finner wasn't much funny, he was kinda pretty cheap and boring. I expected little more smart stuff from him. Nevertheless these posts with reactions pretty messed this thread. I want to read some good info and not about someones personals problems. This was pretty annoying and 0% fun :ranting2:

Ya good information about a camera in development that everyone speculates on and has no real idea about. Bet you finished in the top of your class.

On the prototype I don't see any lens rings. One of the greatest shortcomings of almost all prosumer cameras is that they either don't have rings for focus, zoom and f-stop, or that the rings just spin freely without stop, powering a motor that translates the rotation with delay to the lens. This makes following focus a nightmare. Furthermore most prosumer cameras don't have witness marks.

The easiest way to get around those problems is by giving the camera a lens mount, and let the customer worry about what lens to choose. There are plenty of auto focus lenses out there for people who want this feature.

If I can't have the Scarlet with a PL, Nikon, Canon, etc. mount, I'd like those issues above to be considered. Personally I'd rather pay $5K, and have proper manual lens control. How about you?

No apologies necessary. It is in a thread that spotlights an unknown entity. Hard science is not really at issue here, so a little lighthearted play isn't the worst thing in the world. This forum is really made up of a bunch of good guys that have all been here a long time. Scarlet will introduce a new community that will ultimately find a new home. For the time being, lets show them we've got a good sense of humor. Then we can get back to business, helping each other make the best movies and projects possible.
