  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet

The details on Scarlet's systems are forthcoming, as features will evolve over the next year. We had great input at NAB and Scarlet will reflect much of what we heard on the show floor. We are a company that listens and strives to make what the customer wants. The only ones disappointed will be our competitors.

OK,

I'm cool.

But can you please tell us at least when are you going announce the friggin` full specs?!

:ranting2:

Man I hope someone makes a lens extender for this thing! And how wide is it gonna be? like the lens. and whats f-stop range?

When we've got full specs. The crystal ball is a little cloudy right now. I can tell it's going to be a long year ;-)

Thanks for allaying our fears. Great news about the Lens, and thanks for telling about the mic. I was wondering where the hell it was hiding! For a moment I thought it would require a 744T just to shoot.

I've pretty much resigned my self to shutting up, sitting on my hands and waiting patiently at this point. A watched camera never develops. All I wanna know is if I'm gonna be able to shoot SD and 720 or if I'm gonna be stuck in 3K all the time.

Are you considering at least the creation of REDs wide angle and tele adapters?

And it´s there a possibilty of having chromatic aberration compensation ala Sony? Of course just if it´s needed, unless the optics are so friggin awesome nobody will use that silly function...

Is RED RAID being considered for the videographers?

Now You're talking! Two valid point I would like to know about as well:

A) Wide-angle / Tele-photo adapters designed by RED to match that incredible zoom lens...

B) Will Scarlet support recording to other RED media besides of the CF cards?

And I would like to add:

C) Will Scarlet be able to draw power from external RED-BRICK? I am little worried about the capacity of the compact internal battery. Plus I hate to carry dozen of different chargers and batteries... Don't we all love large-capacity batteries after all?

may I add another question: will I be able to record onto my firestore HD 4?

Not likely as it is designed to accept DV (or maybe HDV) signal via FireWire. Even if Scarlet converted the video signal to meet FW specifications, it will become 60i SD footage. I believe the FW-800 is intended to transfer RED-CODE-RAW to PC/MAC directly. (Maybe one of the hidden features is included build in SSD drive!!! :red_bandana: )

Here is a heretical question; if a mammoth like Sony is having a hard time keeping up with the world-wide demand for the EX1, how is small company Red going to manage the inevitable world-wide DEMAND for the Scarlet? Are they already building a new HUGE factory in the Nevada Desert or are we looking at "Designed in the USA, manufactured in Korea (China, India..... fill the blanks :-) ?

I think that with the USA economy going the way of the dodo for some time, rising oil prices, the depreciation of the dollar and the appreciation of the asian currencies (say bye bye to the carry trade) it would be better to be build there than anywhere else. At least the assembly and distribution. But who knows where are the best deals.

Scarlet should be a good toy for home video stuff and the odd wedding shoot. I do not see it being very useful in much of a professional setting.

You are kidding, eh? :-) "the odd wedding shoot"? Hey buddy, get off your high horse..... Not all "professional" shooting is feature films and TV. And the other matter is, "professional" was, is and should NOT ever be determined by the tools or equipment but by the skill and ability of the person behind the gear. Michelangelo (and many others) clearly created works of art with "equipment" such as pencils, hammer and chisel..... stuff hardly considered "professional" by anyone.

No professional corporate video's are also done but people generally prefer to shoot those with a less of a toy camera then what scarlet will be.

Last time I read history books Michelangelo did not direct or shoot any productions? I would be really interested in seeing the finished product of a production that you shoot with pencils, hammers and chisels.

I think the scarlet will be great for kids and young teen filmakers looking to find a fun camera to cut their teeth on.

Big Jon, I wonder how will be Auto Focus implemented in Scarlet? Are there any system available on the market? I heard that Nikon rather licensed some AF technology from Canon till they developed something similar.

Hey Finner - You must have a death wish posting this here... :whistling:

Do You also drive Hummer to the grocery store next to Your house?

I agree with Bakalaj that is not the gear, but the artist. But even if we use "Your" logic - there were many "PROFESSIONAL" features shot on a gear that is more of a toy the Scarlet would ever be... :bleh:

Just out of curiosity - would You (Finner) mind sharing with us the type of camera You use on a "professional" jobs?

Arri cams, 435's, 535's, Arri III, PFX-M Millennium Panaflex, PANAVISION XL2 35MM CAMERA, PFX-P Platinum Panaflex, F23, RED 1... You know professional cameras, not $3,000 toys. Heck most wedding hacks use cameras worth more than $3,000. I will get a scarlet though because I think it will be a fun little camera to grab some shots on set and home video stuff.

Finner, Finner, Finner... ...as suspected - hard-core "analog professional" bashing everything digital (with the exception of Red One - kudos there...)

You should notice thou that every year more and more professional productions are getting recognized at many international film festivals (and by Academy as well), despite of being shot on 2/3" or "worse" gear...

I rest my case as any further comment will fall on deaf ears and provoke heated debate...
