Scarlet-X video review

Regarding my question about whether you'd like to see this kind of post on here:
Thanks for the kind answers, I'm glad you're into it. I have removed the question from my first post.

We finished a quick short film drama that I will up tomorrow.
Nice !

Sebastian, you will of course NEVER be able to put in enough information for this rowdy crowd :wink5:
but this is an excellent introduction for the Unwashed out there, and I applaud your efforts and look forward to the next installment too.

Two Corrections

Two Corrections

Nice Sebastian!!!

Also I just watched all of there existing episodes at Vimeo RED Scarlet-X Channel

Btw, Only I disagree that you would need a second person to operate the camera especially with a proper balanced and configured handheld rig.

To illustrate what I wanted to say is to look at Bruce Webber photo below

Bruce Webber and his Epic.

I don't think so that Bruce needs an AC so often when he takes his Epic to walk around gathering and taking some images and shoot his short movies,...

Then I would say that Scarlet or Epic are made exactly for somebody who always wanted to be like a

Man with a Movie Camera

Cinematographer Mikhail Kaufman on train operating and shooting (1929) all by himself on a camera that exactly looks like a box type Scarlet or Epic

Man with a Movie Camera,

an experimental 1929 silent documentary film by Russian director Dziga Vertov.

Opening shot from Man with a Movie Camera (Russian: Человек с киноаппаратом), 1929.

The camera at the image above from 1929 looks bit like a box type brain from Scarlet or Epic both Digital Cine Cameras from 2011.

Also at the end at the video RED Scarlet-X: Motion and Grading

a sort of "greenish" color took to much over the movie that a kind of grade actually didn't get so effective impact to show what Scarlet-X image quality (IQ) is capable of.

Sorry that I was in a mood of critic here as usual but actually couldn't resist to mention and to make some of objections to those two points that I found very important for Scarlet-X success...

One more thing:

Sebastian, you could learn a lot from Daren Findling - The Finner our fellow REDUser who makes

Finner Knows Best

truly the best professional and most entertaining web videos about a red centric camera RED ONE, Epic and Scarlet on the Internet.

Also like very much Andy Shipsides from AbelCine New York and his very accurate, informative and also entreating online video presentations about digital cameras, accessories, hardware, lenses, etc,...

Another great video Sebastian!

You can't leave comments on the second video, it's password protected?

The second video is up, but not released yet. Indeed its private but somehow the embedding in the channel tweaks around that... removed it from the channel now, sorry, will be up soon, definitely before 2012.

I agree 1000% That is what separates the Scarlet-X from the Red One. It wont make your arm want to fall off after shooting hand-held or on a shoulder rig all day!!!

Oh and indeed I also questioned the meaning of my comment regarding second person to shoot. What I meant to say was that in most situations you will need a second person because of the ssd running / backup. Sure if you've got an extra few $k's for some 256gb's... then my comment doesn't apply, but if you go with my minimal setup then you'll mostly need a second guy.

Right, if you would shoot with Alexa than in most of situations you need a second person aka AC (Assistant Camera) for a help and to control of certain part of camera or equipment.

But with Epic or Scarlet just because of their small size and lightweight you actually don't need AC so often, and to repeat again you would need but no so often.

You can do it yourself shooting without getting in a big issue (also only if you know how).

For the illustration about shooting with Alexa see the pictures below:

Actually I was on my Canonndale bike as usual passing daily route near by Viennese Opera House,

then suddenly I saw a couple that's shooting with Alexa !!!???

Wow, very interesting!!!

Then I stopped and very fast pulled out of my bag GH2 to make a couple of photo and video documentary shots.

To pull a camera out of a bag when needed to get a fast shot that's exactly what I going to do with my Scarlet.

With Alexa M, sorry but no way in that similar case.

Stay tuned.

And that's a pretty small setup for an Alexa...except for the Optimo of course :)

Dane,

you are right here just because later when a couple finished the shot it came whole group to move heavy Alexa, Optimo, tripod and head to another location.

Simultaneously I just elegantly pulled back GH2 in my bag, sat on my bike and continue to ride.

Again tomorrow I will do the same with Scarlet-X.
