  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-X Proxy Files

No. Epic and Scarlet do not make proxy files. RedCine can make them if you like that workflow.

I didn't realize that the workflow was that different from the RED ONE.

That's a bummer.

A Red-Rocket-less Red Cine is a very scary place.

Meh, making the proxies is pretty simple and fast, and doesn't require a Rocket. Even if you don't have a rocket, knowing the RedCine software can be very, very helpful.

I know the software.

I meant the render times. I had 35 hours on a music video in November. The next one I just did log and capture, didn't have time to do that.

What debayer quality are you using on your proxy files? At 1/4, I get ~ realtime on my MBP...

My understanding is that the SDI output still has black borders even when shooting 4K @ 16:9.
Might not be optimal to plan on using an external recorder to get 1080p masters for a 'quick turnaround.'
For proxies, sure, that should work no problem (especially since the PIX and the KiPro Mini will record TC, Clip Names, etc).

Deanan mentioned that full scaling was planned in a future firmware upgrade... so it's on the road map... but no indication as to when.

Brandon, there is no render required to make proxies. It takes about a second per shot. Proxies are just a set of quicktime wrappers -- pointers to the data in the R3D. I've never used them myself, but if you want that workflow, it's there in RCX with very little effort.

Read the RedCine X manual. (Or RCXPro if you use that.) There's all the detail you need in there.

Oh okay. I'm just used to the RED spitting out four of them automatically.

That doesn't sound so bad after all. Thanks for clearing it up.
