  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-X: 1st Month Reel (Video)

Beautiful shots Patrick! I liked the look of the lenses. Curious where you picked up the Contax Zeiss primes? I'm intrigued to pick one up and test it out if it isn't to expensive. Also what Adapter do you use for it on the EOS mount?

I picked up all my Contax lenses at KEH.com minus one or two. Sometimes they run a little dry plus not all of these lenses have had the greatest previous owners. The 50 is probably the cheapest but if you try 2 or 3 I can almost guarantee you will see some pretty large variance.

I use the 35mm F1.4 on everything. It is the go to.

I'm pretty much running my DaVinci Skin tone trick on every single RED shot these days. Got it all set up so it is only a button click away.

I did a quick tutorial on it here:

Awesome tip, Patrick. I really like the workflow you have set up at Presynkt.

Gotta ask: what are your encoding settings for web/DVD/BD?

Keep up the great work!

Patrick, I absolutely LOVE your tutorials.

I followed many of them in color correcting my recent short film. You made it incredibly easy jumping into Resolve, so thank you so much man. I can't wait to see more.

Also, great reel!

Thanks Doug.

The encoding settings for the web stuff is pretty simple. Follow the workflow through until you get to the after effects portion. In after effects you can render out from there if you want but for the best quality you are going to have to do a VBR 2 pass which AE doesn't offer. The problem is Premiere Pro won't take the DPX sequence. To get around all this you have to open up Premiere, import the after effects comp using the Dynamic Link and then send it out to Media Encoder. There you can use the VBR 2 pass mode. I go to H.264 in an .mp4.

That is it.

Thanks Michael. I like doing the little Resolve tips. The only hard part is figuring out what new colorists want to learn or are struggling with. If you have any suggestions let me know. I'm uploading an HDRx one as I type this.

I really Wish I could run Resolve o my MacBook Pro. It won`t work because of the screen resolution, wich is 1440x900. The terminal Trick doesn`t work on Lion.

Does any one know if it will work if I conect normal Full HD TV via minidisplay port? Even if the colors won`t be right...

Thanks!
