  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-W Overheating Issues

My camera has been at Red Uk for 10 days, they did all the stress tests and the camera is good.
they changed the monitor with a new one and still get hot so now the only thing I have to do is to keep working like that until something weird will happen lol... As Probably I think all the monitors are like that, everyone has this issue.

As Björn mentioned, there's a thread about the LCD becoming too hot. Maybe you can try to mount the LCD differently / not directly on the camera and see what's what.

39° is the default target. Check out the manual on target temperature and sensor calibration.
I just don't know how high you can go.

ADAPTIVE (TARGET TEMPERATURE)
Adaptive is the default mode for the camera.
Select a Target Temperature and the fans self-adjust to maintain the selected temperature. The default Target Temperature is 39°C. After the camera reaches the Target Temperature, and if the ambient temperature remains constant, Adaptive mode results in a consistent fan speed and fan noise over time.
Targeting a higher temperature raises the sensor temperature, lengthens the sensor warm-up time, and lowers the fan speed. Targeting a lower temperature lowers the sensor temperature, shortens the sensor warm-up time, and increases the fan speed.
NOTE: The intent of Target Temperature is to set the sensor temperature so that you can then create a calibration map for that temperature.

NOTE: When the camera turns on, the Target Temperature is the temperature of the current calibration map, regardless of what the Target Temperature was before you turned off the camera. Setting a calibration map also overrides the Target Temperature. For more information, go to “Sensor Calibration”.

BTW for Epic and Scarlet Dragon, the target temperature range is 55°C to 70°C. And 65° was said to be best practice for most common situations. Hard to make a decision from that for Weapon and Scarlet-W though as the default temperature settings are completely different. I just remember that Dragon was said to be ok with and likes to be operated at higher temperatures.

Even 46C seems low to me.
Whats wrong with setting target temp higher?
Default Epic-D target temp is 65C, lowest is 55C, max target is 70C, and lowest shutoff temp is suggested at being 75C (some say in the 80-something-C)

I ask because I set my Epic Dragon to 64C and have had no problems w/ the original MX front fan and 2.0 top fan.

Set to 64C target temp, the Epic-D remains mostly constant for me at speed and the rig runs near silent as well.

We set our Epic Dragons to 45/46/47 all the time.
Nick, I could have sworn I had it set to 54C before, but I just checked and the lowest Target Temp the current firmware will allow is 55C

SCAR-W
The Scar-W Op Guide lists 39C as the default target temp, but doesn't suggest a range.
It only suggests that to lower the fan noise you need to raise target temp:

So whats going be the best "Target Temp" for DSMC2 brains?

I have had my Scarlet-W since last week and also thought it was a little odd to be standard "Target Temp" set at 39.

Should we still be running higher temps on DSMC2?

I sugest what ever comes as default in the latest firmware. If you have to set it very different from that i would guess you are in a hot space or something is wrong. Our weapon CF with the 7" screen runs perfect on set target 99% of the time, only gone higher with fans kicking hard when in direct sunlight in mexico and such.

Thanks man!

Target temp DSMC1 = CPU temp
Target temp DSMC2 = sensor temp

For better noise (sound) performance we would set it to higher temp possible but I'v never heard any statements by Red if this could harm the hardware, shorten life span... by overheating.

Just got my S-W from RED a few days ago and the default Target Temp is 35 C. Most of what I've seen on here is more like 38, 39, etc.

Firmware 6.3.47

Is that what everyone else is seeing?
