Hey Redheads, my Scarlet-W was just delivered yesterday and everything's been going well except I noticed that the menus are quite laggy. There's about a 1.5 - 2 second delay when doing anything in the menu when using my 4.7" touch screen. My 4 year old smart phone is more responsive than my Scarlet currently. My firmware is: 6.3.47. Does anyone have any ideas on why it's so laggy?

Does this happen whenever you attach a redmag? Because I've encountered this as well on my Weapon MG, whenever I put in the card, the menus become really sluggish and I have to wait a while until everything runs smoothly again. Try ejecting and removing the Redmag and see if it works then, mount the card and check once more.

Please post a video of the lag you are experiencing, it doesn't sound right. You may also want to open a support ticket and send in a log file.

Is the behavior that I've found (previous post) normal? I had my camera for a checkup recently so it should be right?

Yes, your experience sounds normal. The UI can become sluggish at times based on other camera activity (such as mounting media, changing formats, etc). However, in these cases as soon as the operation is complete, the UI will return to normal. A constant sluggishness, however, is not normal.

I'm just thinking that the OP may have encountered this normal sluggish behavior and thought it was constant. Would be good to hear a confirmation from him about if it's that or constant.

Mine is constant (Raven with 4.7 inch). Not a 1.5-2 sec delay, but still much much luggish than my Scarlet MX with 5 inch was.
Driven by Foolcontrol it is fast as It should be..
I submitted a ticket and sent a video but Red told me this is normal.. Fortunately I intend to buy the side handle

There are also several problems with Epic-W software:
- Slow start-up (compared to Epic dragon)
- frames skipping during preview. Not in REC... Only preview.
- sometimes the side handle not work.
- the dragon colors with helium have some strange greenish halos (not depends on the lenses, tried cp2, sigma primes, canon)
- etc...

Frame skipping during preview is one I experience and am interested in hearing about. I'm on EW and it's a little annoying that it's happening. Seeing it over HDMI and SDI. I do notice it happens more as the camera is coming up to temp, but sometimes it still occurs after that -- and during recording. The file itself is fine but the monitor will skip out for about a second freezing on an image then going back to a live preview. Is there perhaps a fix in the works?

Yes, and these "frame skipping" are also alarming for my clients on set.

The 1-2 seconds is typically happening when you expand and scroll through an expanded menu but most of the time, it's a minor lag but it's definitely slower than my Scarlet-MX and previous Red menus.

Same here on SDI out...and it happens quite often even if from the release notes it should have been solved by a couple of firmware revisions ago...

Tested 2 different Epic-W:
same "frame skipping" problem also with RED touch monitors on pogo connector or adaptor A (with the "old" 5inch).
I hope will be resolved in the next firmware release.

Same here. It feels like I'm using an old iPad with new iOS and the hardware just can't keep up.

I talked to Red about the skipping. It's the auto black shading loading a new blackshade based on sensor temp. If you load a manual black shade based on your temp and shutter, you'd be able to avoid the skipping and not shock any clients.

I will test this today.
