  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet-W has Begun...

sorry, should have clarified. I ordered a S-W package. Packages started getting allocated on Wednesday, and I was not in that batch. I ordered at 12:22 AM the night of the Raven preorders starting.
oh yeah, you are probably next week then, i havent heard of any packages being allocated yet, if so very few and according to the just the que on reduser there was probably 20 before you, and at least 12 people i know that ordered before 10pm the night before that arent even on reduser.

Just received our new Scarlet-W (SN#000036)! Huge thanks to Jarred, Brent and the entire RED Team for creating such a gorgeous beast! Time to make some pretty pictures...

The Scarlet-W is like the 'Super Nintendo' of Red! Maybe not the most powerful, but it could be the coolest and most fun. Grey color and all!

Love seeing that new 7" monitor on there. I skipped out on the package so I could get it. Love it!

Man, I might have to stop checking this thread. I get more and more jealous every time a new camera delivery is posted!

Has anyone non-Raven and non-Scarlet-D upgrade received an allocation yet?

Trying to see how Betz allocated but I was not.

I'm also Scarlet-W Base I/O V-lock.

Transferred my Raven pre-order with order date two hours before:
(Raven) Order Receipt Date:
September 25, 2015 05:59

Lesson learned. When it comes to allocations and cues, keep your mouth shut.

Jon:

Don't take it that way, I'm just trying to find out what happened so if something is lost in the shuffle I don't wait too long to find out and get it corrected.

No worries at all Michael. Didn't take it personally, just got scared RED would realize they made a mistake and take my allocation back or something :) Hope you get your allocation soon. Excited to see what everyone produces with these new cameras.

:-) Don't think they would do that, in fact I would ask that they not do that - don't want to penalize people for sharing information which is what this forum is all about. Just please put me as soon as possible!

I appreciate your post. Enjoy your camera dude!

Wanted to thank Jon. There was a minor glitch that I probably wouldn't have figured out until next week or later, so Jon's post helped me a lot. And thanks to Brent and Nick for getting it all sorted out quickly.

I went through the entire thread and I understood everything about priorities etc.
What I did't get is roughly how long I'd expect to wait for receiving my scarlet-w (ordered the package upgrade from dragon on Dec 17th).

So how many order a week are going to be shipped? And how some people know their allocation in queue?

I have some productions going on, I sold my dragon and I'd like to understand how to invest my money (if on a day by day rental or maybe a cheaper long term)

Thank you all and sorry if the question was already answered before in this thread

In fact, all those allocation/queue/inexistent delivery date is what keeps us from jumping into a Red camera again. We had a Scarlet-X, we were very satisfied with it. I guess it's part of the marketing today to announce products that can't be bought right away. That's the only nice thing with Apple : at least you can buy most of the products they announce, except the Watch, but who's interest in that anyway ;-)

I guess Red will have to resume the waiting queue very quickly (1 or 2 months, just before the summer productions), or Panasonic may deliver its 6K GH5 before ;-)

Seriously, I really don't understand why it is s difficult to give a precise delivery date to someone who buys a package today. It should be displayed on their website when you order. Isn't there a product manager working at Red ? Someone responsible of the production and the process ? When you buy a car which isn't on the assembly line yet, you exactly know when you're going to get it.

RED's way is much better than, say Sony, that all of a sudden launch a new camera two months after you bought it. No trade in, no credit, nobody on their forums taking advise and adding things like a killer case that wasn't initially part of the camera package...
With Red, you get the camera as soon as super-humanly possible. Look at Blackmagic's 4.5k camera - still not out a year after.

Kristin, look at the bright side. They give us the option to upgrade, they communicate directly to us, they usually numb prices afterwards so we deposit you lock in prices. I think they do too much already for us. But I understand you 100 pct that it would be nice to have a lock date to expect the delivery. But if you look at the pros and cons, Pros are way overpassing any cons on this.

My 2 cents

I guess schedules are different with Apple because they are the most valuable company in the world.

I think Red has done a great job personally. I came from Canon, then Sony and you never really what's going on with those guys because nobody from the company are on the forums, or there might be a sporadic response every few months.

Jarred said, February / March and that's what it is.

Tom, the photos are all broken....
Photos are fixed...thanks everyone, it's a very exciting time. My Weapon Mg should be here next week!! Only been waiting 11 months...

I've been pretty nice lately , but when someone takes a piss on our team specially right now after they are kicking so much ass working stupid long hours and giving up their holidays your comment almost sends me sideways. It didn't.. because I think you are actually wrong with everything you just said.

Lets look at your examples.

Apple. Putting aside comparing apples to oranges in manufacturing, I don't think anything real they have announced is actually ready to ship the same day. Apple announced the phone 6 in early september and started taking preorders a few weeks later and shipping the end of september which slipped to 4-6 weeks the day after they opened up those pre-orders. Thier last computer, the Macbook 12" Was announced in March and started taking pre-orders with shipping in April and that quickly slipped to 3 months later. Remember the Mac Tower ( trashcan ) and how long that took for them to ship? And the watch and the Ipad pro... Apple as an example actually is likely the worst one you could of picked given the fact that Foxconn literally has an army bigger than some countries with more than a million employees making stuff and you would think they should be able to get this stuff all done in a day.

Lets take your other example... when you buy a car. I'm a car guy so ill give you some personal experience since I have had a go around with those in the last year as well. The new Jaguar F Pace was announced back in december and took deposits the same day. I went to the LA car show and asked the dealer in January if I put down an order when I would take delivery and they best they could tell me was " spring or summer but maybe fall "

Tesla... I recently did buy one of these. I actually put a deposit on the Model X in early 2012 with a ship date of late 2013. That moved to early 2014 to mid 2014 to late 2014 to early 2015 to mid 2015 to to late 2015 and they finally started shipping before this last christmas. I actually ended up buying a Model S instead this christmas , which was very mature in it's manufacturing cycle and even still when I walked into the dealer the wait time was a random whatever month it is now say the next month and add an end in front of it. . I got lucky and the exact one I configured just happened to match one that someone backed out on so I ended up getting it a few weeks early. And I don't care how long it actually took.. because boy o boy was the wait worth it. Best car I have owned by a really really long margin and every impatient angry fuck-this-is-taking-to-long bone in my body turned to butterflies and rainbows the moment i received it.

You didn't mention it, but lets take a look at the camera industry. Even on the consumer low low end easy to make mirrorless cameras being released, they announce 2-3 months ahead and it is rare that they actually ship then and when they do they usually go into immediate backorder. We announced the Scarlet-W a little over 2 months ago, and started shipping right when we said we would.

Look at the other somewhat high end cameras for a second. There is Blackmagic (which I hate knocking because i really do admire what they are trying to do) , they announced their latest camera at NAB for shipping a month later and I still don't think it is shipping.

The Alexa Mini was announced at NAB as well for shipping a month later in May 2015 , and they just started shipping in the US last month.

I could go on and on.

Listen... Building stuff is hard. Anyone that tries to make anything really deserves a medal in my book.

We have gotten very very good but just when we get all the wheels spinning smoothly we challenge ourselves further by building something even harder. ( i.e. 8k )

We have an insanely complicated camera lineup that outperforms anything it's size or price and the logistics of making these in our humble factory here in California is a great achievement (at least to me ) . When you add a rather complicated upgrade program on top of that it adds a whole other level of insanity that guarantees our delivery charts start to look like abstract paintings.

I am just so proud of my team right now that I just can't let anyone shit on them. Kristin, I know waiting is hard. I am probably the most impatient person you will ever meet. I get it. We are doing our best to make soon sooner.
