  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet W Future Users Support Group ( SWFUSG )

I actually see the dragon sensor as better sensor to helium. The Helium sensor seems overcrowded with tiny pixels, which we know what they do = more noise. I think less K in a sensor of the same size is better for the image.

I have my Scarlet-W already and I would be greatly disappointed if there isn't a reasonable upgrade to helium (same body, same size sensor) as that was a big reason for me moving to DSMC2. (remember the tick-tock body then sensor upgrade - DSMC2 body is supposed to be the tick)

BTW I would be happy to provide special discount rental rate to Scarlet-W people waiting for delivery.

Ya different brain tho, thats mostly what you pay xtra for. But I bet Red will let you trade it in with a small discount towards new body and helium.

I posted this in the Scarlet-W facebook group. An R3D clip for you guys to play with while you wait. 9:1 at 48fps

Dan, I just downloaded the footage. It looks great. What lens did you use?

Why would you need a new body - isn't that the whole point of DSMC2 - the body is the same i.e. tick=body DSMC2 with "old" sensor tock = new sensor - Helium? Might need new internals board(s) to handle it.

It pains me to disappoint you, but, as counterintuitive as it seems, Helium is so much cleaner than Dragon in higher ISO's...

How do you know this?

Pretty well known about helium from the person who got the pre-pro model to shoot the boxing short. His non-scientific and personal evaluation landed on 3200iso being totally feasible to shoot at...lots of his night stuff was shot at 3200iso.

Seeing how great/clean the images from Helium look and the reviews so far, and the fact that the new lineup will likely be officially announced before I get my Scarlet-W...well to quote a line from Jerry Maguire, "I feel I'm five years late to the prom." But I know the Scarlet-W will still be awesome. Right? Support group?

Put down my deposit for the S-W in early April and my bomb squad rep won't even return my emails. It's quite frustrating to say the least.

I guess the question now is the S-W irrelevant by the end of 2016?

I think it holds it place in the line up. I mean its only a $10k Red. You certainly get what you pay for, and its currently the best bang for the buck. $10k for 5k, $30k for 6k, $59k for 8k. Hmmm

So you go by one random video and few images to make these conclusion, Ha, OK. not convince a bit

I wanted to but wasn't ready to order when first announced, but now I can put in my order. If I put in my order today, any ideas on when it might ship? Before the end of the year?

Probably... if you mean 2017 ;)

I know people still shooting with Scarlet-X cameras (Mysterium-X models), and you should have seen the looks on people's faces when they saw the dailies from the Scarlet-X Dragon.

So... hardly irrelevant.

Thats not right who's your rep?
Nick saw this and called me. Very nice guy. There was obviously some miscommunication in emails. (He did not receive them.)
Of course there is still no way for him to know when S-Ws will be shipping. So wait it is.
