  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

Thank you that is nice to hear (not being sarcastic here). But Jim isn't there also another aspect to take into concideration. If the price increase too much, a bunch of people won't be able to buy it. Some of them might buy another Red product and some might choose other brands and solutions. Couldn't that be a potential loss, and therefore important to take into concideration?

While it is definitely a bad thing to lose customers, it is worse to sell cameras that don't make sense for our brand. We know that with only a couple of models it is just not possible to hit every feature combination and price point for everyone in the industry. We are OK with that for now.

Jim

Good question. We do need to lock down at some point. We just have regarding Scarlet 2/3" 8X Fixed and EPIC-S, EPIC-X and EPIC-M.

The new ideas we have going forward won't be discussed until we are very close to releasing them.

Is the interchangeable 2/3" Scarlet still in the mix somewhere?

I am eagerly anticipating the release. Thanks for the response and keep up the good work, I know it will pay off.

ok, emotions aside:
epic lite vs alexa
how many of you have the 55000 € for an Alexa?
and with 55 k € you are able to shoot ProRes, no ArriRaw.
to shoot ArriRaw you need another 30000€
Thats fucking 85 000 €.
i forgot, in january you are able to buy the alexa +
to upgrade you only have to pay another 10000 usd

thats over 100 000 usd for another RAW camera besides the Red 1/Epic

i am not sure, but everything under 20000 usd or 15 000 € seems like a steal to me.

And Sony F3....go to the woods and try a wide shot and see how much this cam can do.

I know that it is frustrating to hear a number and then see it go up. I get that. But understand that it isn't arbitrary. We discover new things (like HDRx™™) and want to include it. That takes more processing power... and more heat management. That means changes to the body... and development costs. And this is only one example. Other companies lock down and release. Then they will sell you the better one 6 months later. So you just bought two cameras to get what you really wanted. But both were what you expected to pay so you don't complain. We just don't do it that way... not saying we do it right and they are wrong, just different.

Another thing that gets us into trouble is talking as we think here on reduser. It doesn't matter how many times we say "things are subject to change, count on it"... people remember the numbers and think they were "promised". The sour posts continually remind me to re-think our communication philosophy.

Jim

I wouldn't put too much stock in the whining at all. When the cameras hit the street in all of their glory yesterday's bitching will surely fade away, and those who can afford them will use them regardless of the bile spewed here. I will say however that the longer folks have the information the more real it becomes. I would work to limit the release of info to 6 months from release date, but I'm just an armchair CEO. ;-)

Stay true to the goal and deliver great competitively priced cameras and anyone who hasn't been banned, burned or otherwise mistreated will come back to you. Count on it.

The promises have been huge, the wait long and the gear is almost here. Everybody is wound taught. These are exciting times.

Thank you Jim and Red team.

Yeah, it must feel like being killed in WWII few days before the war ended...

We thought we were giving out the info 6 months before release... :-(

Hopefully no one mistakes "S" from Epic S as..."Small" or "Short"...:emote_popcorn:

Yeah, it must feel like being killed in WWII few days before the war ended...

That's actually a great analogy, which is why I think people get so frustrated. Being that, people buying cameras RIGHT NOW can see what is ALMOST here and the leap of capability for the money is IMMENSE.

No worse feeling than when I bought a laptop and two months later, a MUCH better model was released. No amount of telling myself "You got what you needed" because the truth was, what I needed didn't exist and I settled for less.

(So I sold the laptop immediately and got what I wanted, which is what I plan to do in the camera world as well when what I want becomes available)

:)

Even better.

Epic Sex
&
Epic Xtra (more sex)

The new ideas we have going forward won't be discussed until we are very close to releasing them.

Jim

How would you communicate the changes of the features to show the changes in price?

called EPIC Light. The features have changed as has the price. I'll update in the next two weeks.

Jim

Unless the update is close to the release?

Haha, well we're on the ride with you that's for sure. Part of the trailblazer loose cannon Jannard appeal starts with the "what ifs" and the audacity that it takes to throw them out in public. Knowing that you have the ability to make things happen and might even be nuts enough actually try is what makes it fun. Please keep that in mind as you re-evaluate your comms.

Hi Jim, So just to clarify, are you saying that all the features of "Scarlet 2/3" 8X Fixed and EPIC-S, EPIC-X and EPIC-M" have now been locked down. You will not be adding any more additional features to them.

Would I be right in thinking that the main drive now is to ensure that everything is working smoothly, and to also get the production lines going efficiently? Thanks!

Good question. We do need to lock down at some point. We just have regarding Scarlet 2/3" 8X Fixed and EPIC-S, EPIC-X and EPIC-M.

The new ideas we have going forward won't be discussed until we are very close to releasing them.

Hi Jim,

People REALLY seem attached to the Scarlet name ... and one person
did bring up an interesting point about how similar the Epic-X or
Epic-S sounds for consumers and rental houses.

Perhaps something like Scarlet-X would be good .... to mimic the "flagship"
yet also advanced Scarlet model.

Also, having both an Epic-X and a Scarlet-X model will denote that they
are both similar and deluxe/flagship versions, but also different.

Anyway, just a thought :-)
