  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

I'm interested to see what happens here...this could really change some plans.

I also have to vote in favor of Epic LT (or something else entirely) over Epic Light.

Like Epic LT has a nice ring about it, Epic EX, EPIC LT sounds Good

Darn, just when I was starting to think I might stretch my budget to get Scarlet S35 instead of 2/3"...

Oh well, probably wouldn't have really happened anyway...

Keep an Eye on the "Scarlet..." thread. I have a feeling that Jim has some more surprises in store that might make those who want a more affordable ~S35 sensor happy. Maybe not...but I don't think he'd leave the Scarlet line to 2/3" only.

There's nothing "light" about an Epic. Less mass? Sure. Faster? Definitely!

A stripped out Porshe 911 isn't a Porshe light, (read: neutered), its a Porshe GT3!

any whoo, it sounds too much like Epilady, the feminine depilitator...

I love Monty Python's take on marketing in the "String" sketch...put my advertising work in perspective.

Spin Spin Spin...

Now...about those Leicas

And now you can get all if only you could afford it:

- Titanium Epic - Handmade in USA

- Set of Leica - C Summilux T1.4 Titanium Primes - Handmade in Germany.

This two things are really going to change this industry.

RED should keep longer "handmade/titanium" Epic as a special order.

With those two titanium based handmade elements this extraordinary and unique gear combo will become the ultimate 3D rig.

Ok please can anybody tell me why people are so excited about the S35 /Epic light announcement. Surely it just means a higher priced camera ?
Ok this may have been inevitable, but to be honest like Lee pointed out, it means those of us who scraped together the 7-10K necessary for the S35 camera and accessories are looking at a price increase.
I KNOW JIM NEVER MENTIONED PRICE INCREASE AND EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE... but what other reason is there really ?

The one Caveat I would enter here is; IF the Epic Light comes as a complete Package like the Fixed Scarlet for aprox 12K then I will be happy, any more and I'm afraid the dream is over for me.

You may not like what I say but I believe it is a fair point and as a member of the forum have a right to comment.

Lite? Light? Sidekick? Sidecar? Who cares?...I'll just probably call it mine. That is, if I decide to exercise my Stage 3 R-1 as an Epic Lite discount. Really wanted identical Epic Xs originally while thinking of future 3-D projects. But with the introduction of HDRx I'm thinking that 3-D will not be necessary to set the image apart. Not decided yet, but after the new specs are released, my earlier plans may be subject to change.

Ha ha, I called it first :)

Sanjin laid it out, but the first indication that there would be a restructuring of the S35 product line was in that early morning discussion with Jim a couple of weeks ago when I asked him if there was enough of a distinction between the Epic S35 and the Scarlet S35. His response was that they may rethink the pricing.

Searching is disabled now but I'll link the posts when it's back.

Couldn't have said it better.

It would be so disappointing, after waiting for years for Scarlet S35 to have it cost 14 K just for the brain.

I would prefer not to complain, but I think I am in the same boat as a few of you... worried its going to get put just out of reach for me. Got all this PL glass and nothing to put it on... guess ill be renting for a few more years. I love RED and everything I direct that has the budget for it is shot on RED, but I need something I can own.

New Epic Meth (formally know as Epic Light).

Now with reduced FPS...Who needs your DP getting all poncy with artsy slow mo?
Now with Higher compression...who wants to fill up and dump all those expensive memory cards?
Now Lighter weight...fire that pimply Camera Trainee you hired for the heavy lifting!
Now Fewer Options... equals less confusion equals faster set up! Time is money!
Now Fewer module options... nobody WANTS to be attached to a sound guy, let alone Video Village.

hehe

When I think about these cameras, their capabilities, what the competition is doing, the laws of supply and demand,... I'm still scratching my head thinking how or why would they ever price something as capable as an S35 Epic Light as cheap as $15k.

I guess I'll believe it when I see it actually for sale but from a business perspective I just can't see why RED would sell Epic Lights for $15k. It seems the demand is high enough, if they could get more for them, why the hell wouldn't they get more.

I think the way these will be made, will have a ceiling on the number of cams that can be made in a given period. It doesn't make any sense that they would try and sell these at discount prices. People will pay for them!

Did you see how many people are instantly on board with a hand built, machined Epic?

Scarlet S35 becomes Epic Light... Could we possibly get a cheaper S35 camera with some boards taken out @ 3k resolution?
