I'm talkin' out of my ass here, so please be gentle...
While The highly touted HDRx™™, high frame rates and Magic Motion have all been aligned with the Epic line of cameras...
...isn't there room for some of these technologies in the 2/3 (s16) Scarlet line?
First of all, the 2/3 format is here to stay. There's a reason it exists.
It could be said that its better for 3D
It could be said that its better for tough-to-focus shots (sports, wildlife, run-n-gun etc).
It could be said that its cheaper to light in some situations. (thank you Geoff Boyle).
While "The Hobbit" could very well be shot on 32 hand made Epics, I cant help but think dedicated 3D Scarlet pairs would be pretty beneficial. Heck, the controllable Lens Locking ability of the fixed unit sounds very powerful, if enough alignment can be found between fixed lens bodies (tough on a zoom, no?).
I also can't help but think the sports/wildlife guys might like a "fully featured", high speed (not just burst) 2/3 unit.
3D feature film guys would just want everything the EPIC has and more...like Epic processing power in a 2/3inch sensor.
If read/reset times where fast enough, it could be a mini-Phantom as well with on-board RAM or what-have-you.
...and nobody has said anything about a High Density Photo-site sensor. 4K 2/3 inch chip anybody???
...more low light noise perhaps, but a trade off for resolution that you might get back in the 2k down-conversion.
