  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet preview...

I mostly agree with the above statements but I also think it's important not pigeonhole people or jump to conclusions about how one got to where they are today or tomorrow both financially and success wise. There are people with a ton of talent but no work ethic. And Vise versa, and of course the people in between. Some people get lucky and meet the right people and some don't. Some places may have less opportunities than others. But at the end of the day and in my opinion there is always a way to achieve your goals, no matter what, sometimes it just takes a lot more time and work to make that happen. But luckily you appreciate it so much more at the end of the day when you truly earned it.

Red has always been aggressive with their pricing structure vs. the value and quality you recieve in return. So if one is able to afford the Scarlet or the Epic, etc, fantastic, but if the Scarlet prices pushes people out the price range than luckily we live in a time when there are so many other technologies available at an affordable price that they can use while they build up their businesses or careers to the point when they can afford the higher end technology.

It's all just part of the journey. ;)

Yes, that is my philosophy (yes, it is about time, space...and money! ;) My only additional point would be that I predict 2012 to be very hard in economic terms and loads of people are struggling. So, in that sense, I hope the price increase is mild, very mild. If not...yeah..I'll have to work with something else, rent RED whenever I can afford it and so on..

I'm actually glad about this. Wasn't ready see thousands of poorly-shot videos in 3K by amateurs, flooding vimeo and YouTube and thus disgracing the name of Red.
People forget sometimes about talent and think that if they have this camera they'll automatically be able to shoot blockbusters. Red gives you the TOOLS (awesome tools btw) but YOU need to know how to work with them.

This is extremely arrogant, and I hope RED never adopts this attitude.

You know... although I know what are you trying to say, I cannot disagree more. You can buy a pen and paper for less then £5 and write a script that may win you an award at the Sundance f. Cameras are more expensive tools, but the principle is the same, it will not affect your ability to create a great work, providing you have the talent to do it. It seem to me that you also use the tools to, sort of, mask something else. Competition is good.

Seems a little harsh to say something like this but maybe ur right.. not sure We agree with the tone of what has been said here but just our opinion =)

everyone starts somewhere. no one starts a pro. some people may be gifted and talented but they still have to craft their skills. long story short. amateurs can become pros, tools may or may not help that happen its all a matter of opinion but like wise, pros can always fall too.

Are you kidding me?
This statement is wrong in so many ways, I hope you never become a teacher.
I would love to put these cameras in the hands of *RESPONSIBLE *high school students

Good point about what could be coming with the economic outlook, I would not be going out on a limb financially to own any camera no matter how good at the moment. Everyone should be looking at there business models, not wishes, to see if the proposition is viable. Scarlet is selling into a market segment that is more exposed to market fluctuations . If your got the funds go for it, but I wouldn't be doing it on credit. Be shrewd , be strategic , be sane!

Well, don't worry, now you are going to see poorly-shot videos in 3K from people who think that being able to spend thousands of dollars in a camera is going to make their skills magically better. Thinking that anyone is better than anybody else because they are able to shell out more money divulges a lot about the person making the statement. Just shut up and keep statements like this inside your brain. They are much better hidden there.

Scarlet is now a professional camera. It will be more expensive. And there will be no discounts for RED ONE owners.

That is all the bad news there is...

Jim

I think that no one of Scarlet fans was ever interested in something else than professional. Picture must be perfect.

Awesome! No discounts for current owners. That means those of us who were too slow to jump on the Red One express train will get a nice discount!!!

Red has a sense of humour, right?

I happen to be a high school student who hopes to be shooting a feature on a pair of Scarlets next summer.

The main point I disagree with is while that is certainly a possibility, limiting those with less money, and killing progression isn't a good thing.

Tell me about it; I'm currently filming a feature with a VDSLR. Not bad quality though, but not 4K.

If if I have to endure several thousand more cat videos being shot at Unprecedented levels of quality - in order to be able to see the next young scruffy haired Peter jackson climb out if his hobbit hole from nowhere to astound the world with his backyard indie - then it will be well worth it.

Lolcat vids in 4K, that'll be the day! hahahaha
