  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet preview...

In other words: Those of you who were really, really wishing for a pink Unicorn to deliver your 5KFF / 600FPS Scarlet at a cost of $5K . . . go back to sleep. This is a Professional level Tool - not a magic box.

Really, I would be happy with the original spec from a couple years ago. List in the Store whatever - you got my order. It will be a solid value and upgradable I'm sure.
 
Jim, just to be clear, the 12% discount on Scarlet for Red One owners who didn't opt for Epic upgrade is no longer available? Will there still be priority given to R1 owners, or perhaps there is no need to because these will roll out faster than they would have when that first deal was in place. If this is the only bad news other than price increase, I think things are looking good for the 3rd.

SCARLET CREDIT: (NEW R1 ELIGIBILITY ENDED)

If you do not execute your trade-in option in Stages 1-3.5, you are still eligible to keep your RED ONE and and receive a one-time credit of 12% on a Single SCARLET FULL SYSTEM. Cameras only eligible if invoiced by RED or having completed the official RED ownership transfer process ON OR BEFORE May 22, 2010.

First order in - First order out - At a Single Price for Everyone . . . would be my puny little vote. Everyone has waited equally long for this pretty pretty and why screw with grandfather discounts on a product that will have infinite demand for at least a year?

Jim knows how I feel about this. He has given original R1 owners a lot of gifts along the way, and I feel the time has come to move on. I'm one of those original R1 owners, and feel plenty okay with the loyalty Jim has shown us. Ultimately I will see what is offered on the 3rd and proceed just like any other customer. I think there will always be a good connection between RED and those who put faith in them early, but I do feel they have a business to run and at some point you can't keep giving away the farm. So I'm okay if they have changed their mind on Scarlet. :-)
 
Well, in the real world these days money, or lack thereof, is the only thing standing in the way of many dreams. For a pro making money from your craft a new and versatile tool is a must; for people with money to burn is an adventure; for the struggling artist a dream chase. If money is the only bad news then it will definitely be bad news for many. But, well, that is reality 2011.

Yes, indeed, Josh.

And i for one am happy with the 'professional camera' mention, too long we've seen cameras from other companies that were 'just about right', but not entirely, because they deliberately left out stuff, or because it was a 'prosumer' model.
Mostly excited to see wether or not the scarlet announcement will make me rethink a ONE purchase.
