  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet + Nikon 50 1.4 ais

Thanks for sharing that :)

Any tips with cats ;)

Maybe its my in-experience with the RED Scarlet but what do you see that screams DSLR footage?

No worries, it's just the use of short depth of field and absence of secondary lighting/fills that gets the "pros" these days. A trained eye can still tell it's a cut above DSLR. Good luck and thanks for sharing! Buying a Dragon? This is a tough decision for me!

Hello,
FWIW, there's a big visual difference in sharpness, contrast, and saturation between my prores hq output and the youtube version.

+1
and about the Dragon question...does one REALLY need it? Only one can answer that question. Maybe yes and maybe no. I still know of people shooting with the original RED sensor and they put some spectacular images...way better than most current non RED cameras out there.

I know of some that have not even shot 2 projects on their new SCARLETS and now they claim they NEED the Dragon...really? How do you quantify that? I always say...as long as it fits your current needs...go ahead. If not, spend your money in more SSD's, computers, etc. Be wise and have common sense. The Mysterium-X sensor still has a ton of miles left...and even if the Dragon were to never come out, the Mysterium-X sensor would still kick a**

Hey the Dragon sounds awesome...I want one badly...will I go for the upgrade path? Depends on the price I guess........

Couldn't have said it better Coco! The major "push" for me on the Dragon (if there is one) is that pressure of my Scarlet not really being upgradeable which was definitely NOT something I (or probably most of us Scarlet owners) had factored in when I bought it. As you said, it will definitely be all about what the price ends up being for those of us that opted in because I've bare gotten started with this camera. I'm actually very pleased with the picture quality my Scarlet 0123 puts out and struggle with the concept of a 4K "boat anchor," LOL! It is a riddle on the scale of, "When does Moore's Law become a true paradox?" This could perhaps be that situation with Sony just getting 4K distribution off the ground...

There will be most likely a trade-n policy of your Scarlet towards a new Epic.
Having said that, I can't emphasize enough that whatever you paid for it was good value in the first place.

Shot this today with the same lens on my scarlet. Love this lens!

It's a nice piece. I myself have the AiS nikon 50mm 1.4 on my 5d2 hopefully soon to be Scarlet. Your kids will love this when they grow up.

Thanks! Someone mentioned it looking like DSLR. I have shot this lens on 5d Mark 2 and it doesn't compare in terms of dynamic range, color and overall look. To the trained eye its a huge difference.

The full res 4k video on my comp is totally different as well.... Vimeo compression rapes us.

George and Patrick, those video's look great to me, thanks for sharing them.

What of youtube, it might be better since they allow you to watch from 'Original' source. Only time I would use it since I have a plus account with vimeo.
