After shooting with the Red for a month I had a Still Photo assignment come up. I immediately found myself wanting to crop all the shots to 16:9.

I was wondering why I never liked shooting verticals anymore.

Heh.

When I first started with digital photography and started watching the shots on a monitor, I also somehow almost stopped shooting verticals.

But then the iPhone came along, and with it the ability to easily and quickly adjust the screen - and I have re-discovered the joys of non-horizontal shooting.

Heck, I'd love to get a client to do a vertical shot film - should be great for installed displays.

You must use rotating monitors or print out pictures, vertical is amazing.

Hello Christopher,

Your work on your web site is remarkable. You might be interested in seeing a friend of mines work, Chris Walker, who also specializes in low light photographer. Here's his web site: http://www.chriswalkerphoto.com/

There is a lot of vertical format digital signage out there. Should be interesting to experiment with.

I saw a vertical videowall in a fashion boutique in Vegas. Two narrow bezel 42" panels stacked and oriented vertically showing a fashion runway video. Don't know what it was shot on. Also saw a 3 stack vertical array of 2560 x1600 Digital Cinema DLP projectors running custom signage video at Infocomm in June. There was also a 15 megapixel video wall made up of 1x1 foot LED cubes shown too.
Red's should be a shoe in for some of these high end digital signage apps in the near future. Nothing else can shoot the resolutions. HD looked very soft on these displays.

I found myself cropping 2.35:1 quite a few times after getting used to the RED...but only if it helps in telling the story. Take this one as an example. I just wanted to isolate these two on a VERY crowded bridge.
