Hello my dear,
I bought an old red scarlet mx ,I would like in IPP2 what is the rendering of the image worth compared to Komodo, monstro, helium, raptor? can we easily match?

has anyone ever had to match these cameras with the scarlet mx ! what are your feedback ?

Thanks you

IPP2 workflow allows you to seamlessly work with footage from all these cameras, but there's variables at plays that might make a good match tricky. Different Sensor Technology, OLPF/CSF Filter, Exposure Range, etc.

If shot well however, matching is fairly easy. Where matching digital cinema cameras in general gets weird, is at the extremes. For instance, if you have one camera that is notably better in highlights or low light, and the other camera is not strong there, you'll be chasing your tail.

On a more nuanced level. Mysterium-X is a good sensor used by many DPs on features and other projects. But you'll get more color separation, dynamic range, and more from the newer technology.

The IPP2 works wonders. I´ve been able to seamlessly match Helium (albiet that it tends to lean into the green), Mysterium X and Dragon (and Raven Dragon) without an issue. I haven´t used the Gemini or newer Raptor and Komodo sensors to say. Optics come into play too. I had zeiss glass on all cameras on a multi-cam shoot for a TV series and there was not problem matching. However, if you begin to mix and push to limits, then you will see the differences.

Bottom line- keep control of light and the glass you put in front of your sensor.

IPP2 is fantastic and a semi big factor as to why I gave the RED ONE MX a second chance at being my personal camera of choice. It breathed new life into the RED ONE MX that's for sure!

Komodo has a tad more of DR, like +1 1/3 stop of highlights, and cleaner shadows. Scarlet MX is a wonderful camera, especially if you kit it with good lenses like Arri UP, Sony Cinealta Primes, Tokina's etc. I haven't used my Scarlet with DZO etc (they didn't exist yet), but I have shot lots of high quality content on my old Scarlet MX. I have matched it easily with Helium previously, so see no real reason why it won't match Komodo. Just make sure that highlights aren't clipped and the noise floor isn't too high.

I've shot a lot in 3K on it and the texture is something that reminds me of s16 film cameras. Definitely not for every project, but it sure is wonderful.
